So no one has a problem with Walmart wanting to stop all cars leaving their lot for a receipt check? You leave the store but you're still on their property.
No difference, whether at the door or at exit to a roadway.
Company policy is not law. It's not our concern if a store has problems with theft and checking receipts does no good to prevent it

I don't like it. I try to avoid shopping there but it sometimes has to happen.
The only time I've stopped is when I have an item too big to bag. If I'm 100% bags, I walk right passed the person.

There has been lots of talk of this being Walmart's policy and while that may be true doesn't the policy have to be publicly posted somewhere?
I don't show the receipt. There is no contract between myself and walmart to shop there and once the purchase is made the items are mine. If I asked I say no thank you and keep walking.

I don't have an issue with it. I don't go to Walmart anyway but I have the choice to not go if I don't like their policy.

This backwards. There is no law that prevents this policy. For the most part, laws restrict action rather than force action. Walmart doesn't need the government's permission to enact policy.

But it is their concern and they can set up policies concerning customer behavior to address this concern so long as it does not violate any other legal restrictions.

Measure the frequency of shoplifting events and the quantity of missing merchandise prior to the policy of checking receipts versus the same figures after the policy is enacted.

It is a pain but the next time you go in find a store manager and ask them why they view receipts? When I exit they rarely ask to see my receipt and normally do it when I go through self-checkout with unbagged items such as bottled drinks or boxes of cereal etc. I just show them the receipt but I do wonder what's the end game?

As Salmon pointed out, they've probably done studies that prove asking for people to show their receipt cuts down on theft. Otherwise they wouldn't waste payroll on the receipt checker guy.
Anyone who has an issue with taking 2 seconds to show their receipt probably looks something like this...

I recall a number of years ago one of these network investigative shows (20/20, Dateline, etc) did an expose about this very thing ( I've researched it but can't find a clip of of it online)
From what I remember of the show, they came to the determination that once you purchase the product - and the transaction takes place - that item or items is no longer property of the store but it is now the personal property of the customer. With that being the case legally you are not obligated to show a receipt departing the store.

Just show the damn receipt
I was shopping at Target with my mom and sister when I was like 20. They were checking out and I went to the bathroom. A security guard that just radiated the chip on his shoulder type attitude followed me in to the bathroom. Waited until I was exiting. As I’m walking to the door to exit he started putting on leather gloves and asked me to empty my pockets and that he was going to search me because he thought I was stealing. I looked him dead in the eyes and said “seriously?” And he started mumbling and stuff. “Do I really look like someone who is stealing?” ... and I brushed him on the shoulder as I just walked past him and left.
That is a hill to die on. I’m not getting searched by a rent a cop with no probable cause in a bathroom alone with nobody around.
A person working their job that is strictly to look at receipts while you exit doesn’t get paid enough to put up with male Karen’s. Show the receipt and go about your day.
Don’t go picking useless fights. That’s unnecessary.
