There is a vast difference in the requirements of a private business that you choose to visit, and government sanctioned genocide.
You sound like a guy who refuses to wash his hands after taking a dump simply because your employer has a sign on the bathroom mirror requiring you to do so.

16 pages and over 300 down votes later someone finally gets it. Thank you so much , my friend. I have been astounded at just how easily our citizens have become sheeple.
Too many would rather make snarky comments and personal attacks and they have no clue what they lose by just accepting something cause that is the way its done. Just keep fighting the fight.
Muh civil liberties!!!!! Arghhhhhhh..........
It’s a fricking Walmart receipt. You’ve spent hours on a message board bitching about this shite.

There is case law in regards to this.
They can ask, you can refuse. There is no recourse for them if you do so.
But only a private club (Costco/Sams) has the ability to punish (by revoking membership.
It's not that complicated. It really is that simple, people.
Pretty much everybody on both sides of this issue so far in this thread have framed this issue incorrectly.

The sentinel then ran outside to report this to the police officer stationed by the doors
That's actually grounds for termination at Walmart. Employees are not allowed to pursue anyone out of the building even when they suspect the person of theft. It's a massive liability for them and not worth the cost of whatever item might have been stolen.

Horrible response. It's a freaking Walmart receipt and their store. You go in knowing you may have to show a receipt for something new you walk out with, and you make the specific transaction obtaining their product knowing the same thing.
You aren't the champion of anything. Damn sure aren't being suppressed, imprisoned, or murdered by Nazis.

The sentinel knew there was a police officer who would offer assistance. The worst offense was actually grabbing my arm as I walked past after stating you have no right to see the receipt.

I feel like that's a line a lot of shoplifters use when first confronted

It doesn't matter. My mom has worked for walmart for 30 years, and I have been told on more than 1 occasion what Walmart's policy is. No one is allowed to pursue anyone out the door, not even loss prevention. It's not just Walmart either. Most of the big retail stores have the same policy. The last thing they want is an employee pursuing someone into the lot and getting killed and then getting sued by the family for millions. It makes no difference if the was a cop right outside the door.

I selected my products and paid for the products as rung up by a Walmart employee. At that point I had fulfilled any obligation I had to Walmart.
Any further action on the part of the store was either premised on the belief that I was walking out without paying for something or was suspected of doing that. I don't have to prove I was innocent under any law or civil rule. Just because its their store does not give them carte blanche to treat visitors in any way they deem appropriate.
For instance there have been documented reports of women being arrested for placing objects in certain areas of their anatomy while shoplifting. Would this justify the store conducting a strip search of women shoppers?

Sure it does, as long as it's not illegal

That'd be illegal

You are a moron they have the right to refuse service to you. You being a dumbass is not a protected class under the law.

They did not refuse service to me. To the contrary they were very happy to accept my $237.54 in full payment of my purchases.
Whether they have the right to refuse service may involve certain civil right issues which will best be left for another day.

Double checking to make sure the cashier rang everything up right. Of course it is. Have you never been to Sams or Costco?
Posted on 5/7/20 at 11:45 pm to tigersbb
I’ve never had this happen to me. But I don’t look poor, so congrats on the poor
Posted on 5/7/20 at 11:46 pm to tigersbb
My comment was I would refuse service if you returned for not following store policy/rules and that is 100% allowed and supported by the law. Believe me they don’t need you.
