Fry's has been doing this for WAY longer than Walmart, as far back as I remember Fry's existing. I don't recall anyone bitching about Fry's doing this.

I don't mind showing my receipt, but since I use Walmart Pay, said receipt is on my phone.
I object to the attendants taking my phone out of my hand to peer at it, especially during this pandemic. Their gloves are *not clean* and they have no business contaminating my phone.
Why does no one realize this?

You are still in their store when they ask to show the receipt, you also know that is a practice Walmart has done for years & years, don't understand why you would start a big deal about a receipt... 
If you don't like their practices, don't go! It's just like the masks- I don't wear one, but if a business requires I wear one, then I do while on their premises...

The don't seem to delineate how you check out in my experience. I don't like the self checkout and always check out at a register with a cashier unless self checkout is the only option which is their option. The fact certain items are not bagged is also their issue not mine. My option is to decline to show the receipt.

Nope. Its their product until I check out and pay for it and the cashier hands me a receipt or the self checkout machine does the same when no checkout lanes are open. At that point the products are mine, the same as the shoes I wear or the cell phone in my pocket etc.

what part of the constitution does this violate? You're on private property and the business can create rules like this if they want to. Lots of stores do this, it's not unique to Walmart.

Whether other stores do it is irrelevant. Please identify the law that prevents a departing store customer from declining to show my receipt for legally purchased items when no crime has been alleged. Waiting ..............

Yes, because once the police ( governmental entity ) were brought into the matter it became a constitutional issue.

My how your question has changed. Now you want a legislative act which makes it illegal for a customer to refuse to show a receipt when leaving a store? How about you just don’t shop there if you don’t like the procedures of the business. They don’t want you because you are probably a shoplifter. Go be a dick somewhere else.

No, it didn't My question was whether there is a law requiring a customer to show a receipt when exiting the store? If not and the store has not alleged a crime was committed either while shopping or by refusing to show said receipt then there is no probable cause to request police intervention which then becomes a constitutional issue.

The employee didn’t need probable cause to report you to the police. The police need probable cause for the stop, which they got when employee reported you to them.
