Dude at some point, common sense should take priority over making a point on an online message board. You’re normally a pretty sharp guy, but you’re wayyyy wrong here

Appreciate that but I’m not trying to be controversial, I’m just being consistent.

There is a world of difference between good policy and legal policy.

I got covid early, like the county health department called me early.
I worked for a fortune 250 company. (Doesn't mean I'm wealthy) and had a 1 year no compete. My boss suggested they may do mandates.
I left the company two weeks later, put up garage doors for a year then started my own business.
My previous employer called me for 6 months trying to get me to reconsider, explaining they decided against the mandates.
The simple fact of someone that knew me, suggesting they, (not a doctor) could dictate my personal health decisions was all the motivation I needed to go out on my own.

It's a shame you were forced into that position.

And that exact type of tyranny is what we should never forget.

Again I think you young mfers are blaming this on the wrong people. Most of us over 50 know people who died from this shite. Many of them anti vaxers like you mfers and my kids. I don’t know why you mfers are bitching, if you are like my kids you ignored the vaccines and every request for distancing, etc. what do you lose?

Someone is very sensitive.

I'm one of 3 boys that came up on a hog farm in the middle of nowhere Kansas.
My wife (no pics) is from California. We made a trip out to L.A. for a funeral during the height of covid.
We headed into a high class seafood joint per the wife's request. The Placard outside said vaccine card required.
Walked in and the man at the door asked if I had my card handy. I smiled and said "what do you think?"
His response- "right this way sir."

I’d like for people to add to the list of companies if possible. Never forget.

Where the frick were you and your list two or three years ago? Did it take you this long to get riled up? You should have started your boycott in 2021 or 2022.

Concur, but in this case, money overrode principle.

Personally watched people pack the contents of their lockers offshore when time ran out. Damn shame too.

I’ll add pretty much all of healthcare.

I work in healthcare for a very large company. I'm the only person in my region who made it through without getting the shot and kept my job.

Yeah, and it’s also someone’s choice not to agree with the shite policies and hold them accountable as best as they can. This was way too big a thing for people to just forget about like Carhartt and the rest of them figured.

Guess I'd say mission failed. No one cares. Move onto another grievance.

Well so much for the idea of waivers.

I started entertaining recruiter calls from a handful of companies and I always ask “At any point during the height of COVID, did your company require vaccination as a condition of employment?”

The HR folks always get confused on why I ask, but a company with a history of over stepping…

So if a company overnight says it is now our policy that we will only employ people who shave their heads, you have 24 hrs to comply or your employment ends at the end the next business day, that's legal?

I believe that's legal in some places, however, that's not a good analogy. Cutting hair is not the same as injecting your body with an unknown substance.
This would be more like a company mandating that you have to smoke weed or something else to work there. Should that be legal for a company to do even in an at will state?

I worked from home at that time and had to show proof of vaccinations or leave. Can't speak for all of BR, but those that knew were in a similar situation in their workplaces.

I’m not sure if it should be legal, but the question is whether it is legal. I’m not aware of any wrongful termination cases that have succeeded against these companies. If you know of one please let me know.

ETA: Houston Methodist was one of the first places to mandate vaccines. Many employees sued. Case was dismissed in Texas…

quote:

Approximately two weeks after the case was filed, Judge Lynn N. Hughes of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas granted the System’s motion to dismiss, upholding Houston Methodist’s vaccination policy. The opinion wholly rejected the plaintiffs’ claims, stating that “Texas law only protects employees from being terminated for refusing to commit an act carrying criminal penalties to the worker,” and that “[r]eceiving a COVID-19 vaccination is not an illegal act, and it carries no criminal penalties.”

In addition, the opinion cited recent Equal Employment Opportunity Commission guidance stating that employers can require employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, provided there are reasonable accommodations for those with disabilities, legitimate medical conditions, or sincerely held religious beliefs precluding vaccination.9

The opinion concluded by noting that not only did the plaintiffs’ claims fail as a matter of law, but that the plaintiffs had also not sufficiently demonstrated that they had been coerced. In the words of Judge Hughes:

“Bridges says that she is being forced to be injected with a vaccine or be fired. This is not coercion. . . . Bridges can freely choose to accept or refuse a COVID-19 vaccine; however, if she refuses, she will simply need to work somewhere else. If a worker refuses an assignment, changed office, earlier start time, or other directive, he may be properly fired. Every employment includes limits on the worker’s behavior in exchange for his remuneration.”
