The reason why manuals are going away is that you can’t implement all of the modern safety features like collision avoidance, auto-cruise, auto start/stop…

Same reason electronic steering assist is implemented instead of hydraulic…you just can’t use all of those features.

My car is hydraulic and manual…but i have an electric gas pedal.

My favorite cars had manual transmissions. And they weren't sports cars. I learned how to drive with a manual transmission Ford Escort. My first car was a manual transmission Honda Civic. Those little utility drivers were zippy fun to drive with a stick. Being able to pop the clutch and spin the front tires was an added bonus.

Man, frick all of that nonsense. I miss my Mustang every single day. It was absolutely fun to drive. I have always loved driving a stick shift.

I've gone through a few commuter cars and always get manual transmissions. It makes the commuter car suck a little bit less.

I like how he quotes himself
quote:

They feel there’s something authentic about it: a connection between driver and vehicle that automatization cuts out.

Imagine the Bullit movie car chase with an automatic EV.

I'm pretty sure my new manual MINI has all three of these.

While sticks are a pain to use in traffic, they are superior in enabling the driver to transfer power. This writer is ill informed and a dunce.

Interesting fact, Corvettes first came out with an automatic transmission and didn't do well in sales until they offered it in a stick.

How TF does your car stop/start without your foot on the clutch? Just lurch forward into the car in front of you?

What happens when you’re in 4th and the car slows for traffic ahead down to say 20 mph? You’re going to have zero torque.

The pushback on manuals is so weird to me.

I don't get it either. He's throwing all the standard crap at those who just happen to like manual transmissions. My first five vehicles were manuals and I wish I had one now. I found them to make driving more fun, in most situations.

I should have known when I realized it was a CNN article that it would be a waste of time.
