What does she mean by this?

Newsflash - racism won't be tolerated and diversity is still important.

Well I'm not saying it's not harmful at all. I'm just saying it's a better scenario than option #2.

And I disagree. In fact my default opinion when I hear one of these stories is that it's a hoax

Another question here is why isn't the black cadet being held responsible for a hate crime? If a white cadet actually wrote it, they would be tried and kicked out I'm sure. So why should it be any different?

I see what you're saying, and agree they should probably lay the hammer down on people that do this type of thing, if for the only reason to send a message that while racism won't be tolerated, neither will faking racism.

But it won't happen, unfortunately.

The general stands by his statement that those that do not understand dignity and respect are not welcome here.

I wonder if this will apply to the victim turned perp.

So now the guy that wrote it is still considered a victim? Jesus Christ

That's because the majority of the time the last 3 years it's been proven to be a hoax

The AP said something along the lines of "Victim of hate speech determined to be author" or something similarly stupid.

Given where we are in society, the cadet should probably be punished not for lying, but for insensitivity to himself, then he should sue the academy for being subject to his own actions.

how is this your logic? Real victims of blatant racism should be livid. The last thing we need in race relations is folks looking at these events as "the boy who cried wolf".

Why would you hope for this?
Why would I hope that people become less sensitive and realize that there's assholes in the world and it's not a big deal if someone says something mean?

Oh, idk.

That's clearly not what he meant. You're just trying to get offended in this thread.

He should've used "victims" but it's clear he meant that.

my interpretation was that it's unfortunate this happened, period. Not that it's unfortunate that a white person didn't actually write the messages.

I hate CNN as much as the next guy, but this is pretty absurd.

Yep. It appears the hoaxers and fear mongering faaaar outweigh the racists. And they're doubling down on the fearmongering

That is nowhere in the same universe as what you said.

Hate speech isn't just saying something mean.

If it was a white guy, do you think he wouldn't have been immediately and very publicly kicked out the academy and likely arrested?

My stance on hate crimes is that the term is absurd. A crime is a crime. It would be hypocritical to ask this guy to be wrung up on hate crime charges when I don't believe they're appropriate for anyone.

I don't really believe this. Most racist folks just don't do blatant shite like write racist things on walls. They are just casually racist with their buddies and whatnot.

Same for black folks, though. Many of them casually are racist towards other minorities and whites.
