Of course. When I watched it, though, that wasn't really how she came across. I'm willing to admit I could be misreading it, but I'm just being honest.

Huh? Did you watch the video?
She says it was unfortunate to learn who wrote it, implying it was unfortunate this story was a hoax. If she said she was glad it was a hoax, you would have made this same post saying "CNN is pro-hoax stories."
ETA - CNN has their faults, no doubt, and they're easy to point out. However, this is a dumb one.

Get this bullshite out of the OT and off of TD completely. It's worse than what's on the poli board. I don't like CNN but you are spewing lies and making up things that aren't there.

I don't think she meant that it's unfortunate that it wasn't real but she did express angst that it was a fake
Obviously if it was real it would be worse, but someone faking it is still terrible. It ruins the credibility of anyone who is a legit victim of a hate crime.
It's just like dumb bitches who falsely accuse men of rape. It causes everyone to pause and question legitimate victims who speak out.

I really wish mods could crack down on fake and misleading thread titles like this one for all of TD. How is that a stretch?
Because she didn't say it was unfortunate the cadets weren't actually racists?

Yep. She was definitely disappointed in the hoax but that doesn't necessarily mean she hoped some white guy was really racist

Why is that "unfortunate"?
She didn't say "it's unfortunate to find out who actually wrote it".
What she said was:
"The speech still stands, the words ring true, its just unfortunate to find out who - really all the way around - who wrote it"
The obvious reading of her statement would be disappointment that the positive statement from the Air Force (the "Speech") was based on and tainted by false information.
The only way to get your interpretation is to remove all context and ignore the part that says "all the way around".

It's also a bit embarrassing to everyone who reported on it too. She said it was "unfortunate to learn who, really all the way around, who wrote it." In other words, the entire situation was unfortunate.

This is a prime example of how we overthink and over analyze everything and are becoming negative and cynical as a result

Yeah she mentioned the general, John McCain, etc who spoke out when it happened. This one kid's shitty lie distracted so many people from shedding light on possible real instances of racism that could've happened.

Yeah, people see/hear what they want. Many people on both sides can spin anything to fit their preconceived notions.

It's becoming increasingly clear that we have to. Fake racism claims and fake rape claims are only hurting real victims.

Unfortunate seems like a pretty good way to describe the entire thing.

Yep. You could even say it's unfortunate all the way around.

Basically the word racist has lost all meaning due to ubase, which is unfortunate for real victims.

Perhaps because it will lead people to take actual instances of hate speech less seriously on the future?

Why would you hope for this?

We call these acts despicable at first, then once proven to be a hoax, we call them "unfortunate". That's a real problem.
