Last year I got in trouble for flirting with my BIL's wife. She's a chunky blonde and has this look about her that says she'd do anything, anywhere, anytime. She's fun to talk with. Can't wait to see her today.

First time in 7 years with my wife we wont be together Christmas morning. I'm out of the house.
Saying it is crushing does not even begin to describe the pain

Come back next year with a younger, hotter woman.

You'll forget about the 1st wife.

So far, hard to believe, but it has been pretty much drama free. I decided this year just to take everybody out to eat. I thought people would complain but everybody loved it. My mom, who usually does a lot of the cooking on Christmas eve, said it was her best Christmas in a long time since she could just relax. And everybody else seemed happy too. Now, I am drinking coffee and watching my kid play with his toys. I really hope this keeps up.

No family around = no family drama

Christmas a decade ago was a bustling house with presents and Santa and food and family after just returning from a family vacation in Vail (the last we ever took). This morning is a quiet house and hot coffee save for listening to an audiobook.

It is December 25th, but this aint Christmas.

Complain about your family drama, but it could be worse.

We're coming up on time to go to church and everyone is dragging arse. The powder keg should go off soon.

Aunt going through a pretty crappy divorce (crappy for her). Ex husband and his family booked the same restaurant for dinner last night that we go to every year. We were seated directly next to their table.

The wine has never gone down faster

This is great advice. Drunk old ladies are a hoot, too. They'll tell the juicy stories from days gone by.

Spent last night with my family and everything was perfect. Headed to GF’s house today to spend the day with her family. Just got off phone with her and found out the family had a massive blow out fight until 2am and no one is speaking and some people aren’t coming today. This should be fun.

Since you are not involved it might be fun for you.

My father is on his second wife (and second set of kids). Well his wife had a daughter before making babies with pops. Well the adult daughter of his wife got married about 2 years ago. They’ve since had a baby, but that’s beside the point. I guess you’d call him my step BIL at this point. Dude is from Iceland, and they live in Hawaii.

Anyway, we arrive yesterday, and dude is already turnt. He’s speaking Icelandic and shite, and starts slapping my dad’s belly, being super annoying and shite. My 21 yo daughter starts holding his arms, and he starts biting. At this point, my brother has his legs, my daughter has his arms and my dad is holding him down, and he started biting my dad on the arm.

Wtf did I just read?

I’d greatly prefer solitude over anxiety and stress. Luckily my in-laws have been pretty tolerable the last several years (after many years of being not), at least in small doses.

They’ve suffered a bit from TDS since 2016 but coping with it okay. The near-constant CNN watching doesn’t help.

We’ll see how today goes with the fake impeachment thing going on.

Husband and I had to divide and conquer last night and each go to seperate family members houses. In case that did not suck enough my MIL woke up at my house this morning and is too sick (because she is allergic to a medicine a doctor prescribed 6 months ago apparently and won't stop taking it) to drive herself home. So now instead of relaxing and watching Christmas movies and eating leftovers today we will be making the 3 hour round trip to drive her and her car home.

My wife and I are 2000 miles away from any family. Me, her, our dog. Wearing christmas sweaters, drinking coffee. Gonna roast a chicken later and have some stuffing. Made and decorated sugar cookies last night. Maybe we will look at lights later tonight. We watched Jingle all the way yesterday, we might watch a different christmas movie today, or we might keep watching the handmaids tale.

It sucks being away from family that you miss, but being alone on holidays has SERIOUS upside. Solitude is nice.
