SINGER, La. (KNOE) - A mother in Beauregard Parish has been arrested in connection with the fire-related death of her 11-year-old son.
According to Louisiana State Fire Marshall's Facebook page, Jenny Stafford of Singer was booked into the Beauregard Parish Jail on one count of negligent homicide, one count of possession of schedule II controlled and dangerous substances, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Beauregard Fire Department responded to a call about a child trapped in a camper fire around 1:00 a.m. Thursday in the 2300 block of South Smokey Cove Road in Singer.
Firefighters later discovered the body of the child in a bedroom. Investigators say Stafford admitted to leaving the sleeping child unattended to go next door to do drugs.
Investigators also say despite being feet away from the camper, Stafford became aware of the fire only after being alerted by an acquaintance who discovered the smoke and flames upon arriving in the area.
Official identification of the child is pending with the parish coroner's office. The investigation into the cause of the fire is still on-going. Investigators say there were no working smoke detectors in the home.

She needs to be charged with murder

An 11 year old is old enough to be by himself if his mom is next door. The negligent homicide is BS. The drug possession is legit though.

My first thought: Is Singer in the LP?

I’m sorry but an 11 year old is definitely old enough to be home alone.

Well yeah here in Louisiana it’s 10 years old
Go figure

Singer is basically a collective of trailer parks surrounding a dollar general. So, The LP might be more advanced.

11? I stayed by myself earlier than that.

Where she was at was few feet from trailer. They were staying in a camper in someone’s yard is how the picture looked. Maybe 50 ft from back door to where she was

Wow. If that’s not hitting rock bottom, then I don’t know what is. She will feel this for the rest of her life. Conviction should be pretty easy.

She left her kid behind to go do drugs. How much more negligent do you have to be?

At 11 I was smart enough to escape a fire. Mom sounds like a p.o.s though

An 11 year old, in a normal safe house, can be left alone to sleep while the parent goes next door. I don’t know if it matters that she was doing meth. If she was drinking next door would you still want her charged?
I’m sure the place was a shitty unsafe hazard and she had no business even having a child there in the first place though.

Leaving the 11 yr old isn't a crime. The child died in his sleep from what it sounds so he/she had no chance of getting out anyway. They're going to find out how the fire started and I'm betting she was negligent in that.

I've read so many stories about parents abandoning, abusing, and murdering kids lately...what the hell is wrong with this world?
