I bet some gullible people in the 60's actually believed life would emulate the Jetsons by now too.

How does a state, who's beyond broke, have cash to give away for free?????

Eventually the rest of Illanoy has to stand up and say enough is enough. #walkaway

Stupid and lazy people need saving for votes.

I hate to say it but of all cities I can't wait to see this play out in Chicago.

I understand the concept, it just isn't practical.

I wonder was it the native population or the immigrant population?

As I gaze into my crystal ball, I foresee a mass exodus of this part of Chicago within 5 years. Poverty will be rampant. Crime will be at an all time high. And not a single one of these families will have $1k in a bank account.

because the system is set up to if you actually save the money, you no longer qualify for assistance. The entire thing is created to keep them poor instead of to help them get unpoor. If you take a step far back enough you can't even blame the people. Most of them have been bred into it.

We spend lots of money on means testing, aka making sure the only people who get assistance actually need and/or deserve it. So why not save money by reducing the amount handed out per person and just giving that to everyone no matter what their income? That way you aren't paying for the bureaucracy that surrounds means testing.

And those same people blow their UBI on crap other than necessities, so they're right back demanding housing assistance, food assistance, etc. etc. Children will be trotted out on television, and democratic politicians will beat the "think of the children" drum.

UBI goes up. Rinse and repeat until you're bankrupt.

You always get more of what you subsidize.

That wasn't directed at you specifically foshizzle, just the argument as you presented it.

Already happening in some California towns. When the automated trucks, forklifts, robots, etc. are all electric, there won't be any jobs for non-techies. They'll need money for their non-essentials.

Thanks for the clarification.

It seems to me that this isn't an attempt to improve anyone's lives, it's more about making it less expensive to satisfy voters who want to save the world with simple answers.

Once UBI starts the politician who offers the highest UBI wins the Democratic nomination, and in Chicago the election.

Of course it's not.

Less expensive until the next election cycle. Then it becomes astronomically more expensive. As I said, rinse and repeat every election. Politicians will be falling all over themselves to be the first to promise to raise the UBI.

It's not "Universal" Basic Income if they are selecting poor families for it.

It's wealth redistribution by yet another name.

frick socialism and frick liberals.
