Chicago Mulls Testing ‘Universal Basic Income’ Program

Not sure on how to be included in the 1000 families. Must be nice to get free money to do absolutely nothing for it.
Disclaimer: OP is aware there is a similar topic on the Political Board. However, this is proposal is not about politics (wink, wink), but about lives.

Chicago Alderman Ameya Pawar introduced legislation that would set aside city government funds to give 1,000 families a guaranteed $500 monthly stipend with no restrictions or conditions for receiving the money, the Intercept reported Monday. The bill would also modify the Earned Income Tax Credit program to allow the families in the test pilot to use their tax credits for their monthly mortgage payments. “Nearly 70 percent of Americans don’t have $1,000 in the bank for an emergency,” Pawar told the Intercept. “UBI could be an incredible benefit for people who are working and are having a tough time making ends meet or putting food on the table at the end of the month.”

But despite the hope of left-wing politicians and Silicon Valley elites that a universal basic income will be a panacea for families struggling with poverty, other universal basic income experiments around the world have failed. Finland terminated its universal basic income experiment before its trial run was supposed to end, allowing the trial run to expire at the end of 2018. In 2017, the Finnish government selected 2,000 unemployed Finnish citizens to receive a €560 monthly payment regardless of their employment situation. The exact reasons why Finland decided to end the experiment early is unclear, but the reasons for ending the experiment will be revealed in 2019 at the completion of the project.

Perhaps a universal ammo ration would work best

Does anyone think we won't need UBI at some point in the future?
And no, I'm not talking about anytime soon.

I believe that to be an stretched statistic. Also, people like that probably blow money on stupid shite instead of save. It’s all about priorities.

In a distant utopian future when tech is so advanced we aren’t needed to do day to day economic happenings. But that will probably never happen.

I think we know who many of the 1K will be.
Chicago is the ruin of Illanoy. Madigan has urinated all over the citizens who don't live in Chicago, and they are getting ready to vote in another Democrat Governor, who will allow this jackass to steal even more $$$. Wasn't Illinois set for a huge tax increase? I mean they already pay Iou's with iou's.
As bad as they are, not as dumb as California. Cali Resident: Hahaha, we had a surplus of 8 billion, that we will whizz away on social programs for illegals and other dead beats. But oh yeah, we still owe trillions to pensions. LOL California Politician math.

Liberals, why do they insist on ruining this country?
As I gaze into my crystal ball, I foresee a mass exodus of this part of Chicago within 5 years. Poverty will be rampant. Crime will be at an all time high. And not a single one of these families will have $1k in a bank account.

I gather the argument goes like this:
We spend lots of money on means testing, aka making sure the only people who get assistance actually need and/or deserve it. So why not save money by reducing the amount handed out per person and just giving that to everyone no matter what their income? That way you aren't paying for the bureaucracy that surrounds means testing.
I have no opinion about whether this works or not, this is just what I understand the argument to be.

$500 per month isn't a basic income. It's a night out with some friends that's a little fuzzy in the morning
