Cheaper alternatives for Dog and Cat food

A recent thread discussed about the high cost of pet food.
The high prices just got me by my having to drop $70 for each bag of Science Diet dog food.
I am certain there are those that will swear by a certain cheaper dog food as well as others that will curse the same brand. Just looking for a discussion.
Costco? Members Mark? Purina One? What else?
Homemade?
TIA.

Switched from Purina Pro Plan to purina one last month due to costs. Dogs seem fine

I wouldn’t do homemade food if you have multiple dogs, especially bigger ones

what type of dog? Is it prone to skin allergies or stomach issues? If its a regular old dog, feed it Purina Dog Chow or Frontier Brand from TS.
If its a specialty breed or has health issues (skin, coat, stomach) dont get anything of lesser quality than Purina One or Iams, etc.
i'll add, the type of food may have an effect too for sensitive dogs. We have to feed lamb/rice to one FBD. allergies go into hyperdrive on anything else.
Oh the joys of owning a purebred.

Tractor supply 4Health is fine for cats but my vet says some dogs have gotten sick from it. I use Iams since that’s what my vet recommends.

I've been buying cheap dog and cat food forever. I've got a dog and cat that will probably die of old age in the next few years.

Since you didn't specify quality. I'm sure this stuff isn't the greatest, but your local TSC will have 50lb bags for around $25. Most dogs would survive just fine on it. Supplement some of their meals with left over meats, rice, veggies, etc. for additional nutrients. Plenty of dogs everywhere eating that stuff and doing just fine.

Green bag Purina or Yellow bag Pedigree. 50/lb bag, about $25. Supplement with table scraps.

We won’t go super cheap on their food. We’ve been getting ours Taste of the Wild for 4-5 years now. It’s still $59 for a 28lbs bag.

I recently switched from Purina pro plan to Purina one (the salmon flavored sensitive bag) due to price. I have two large dogs. Both enjoy the new kind and have not had any issues with the switch

The dog is part of the family, I'm not adjusting his food because the cost per bag went up $5-10.
Ours is on NutriSource Large Breed Trout and Rice. About $70 for a 30lb bag

Basically mutts. We foster different dogs, plus have our own. But they're all mutts.
Anywhere from a Chiwinnie to 90 pound lab mixes.

That's a jump. I'd be hard pressed to change mine regardless of the cost because our German has a notoriously finicky stomach.
