City workers spray some kind of scented liquid in the gutters so if you catch them at the right moment, it smells okay for a little while.

Born and raised in nola......been to charleston

I would live in charleston in a heartbeat.....I would never live in nola again.

If both were an hours drive away I would choose C over nola 99 out of 100 times

Is Charleston on the verge of replacing Nashville as the next cool city? Seems like Nashville has lost a bit of luster with its recent uptick in crime.

I don’t think Charleston has the industry base at the moment to fuel that kind of growth. Tourism is fine but it doesn’t fuel explosive growth.

People always forget that Nashville’s growth was fueled mostly by the healthcare industry.

Charleston gives NOLA a run for stink in late summer when the swamps have been simmering all summer with no water movement through them. Then add the pung of pine woods to the west of the swamps that are either burning or smoldering much of the time.

The crime cameras are there, too.

Born and raised New Orleans, live in Atlanta, long weekend in Charleston two weeks ago.
Stayed on Meeting Street snd we walked all around that area, the Market, saw a lot of things. Felt very safe the whole time. Food not anywhere near as good as NO. This was before tourist season so was able to get into restaurants that locals go. Very good but not NO.
Saw little to no kulcha. BTW, lived on St Claude just across the tracks going from franklin to lower ninth. Moved to lake in 58, Atl in 61. Happy to see positive changes on St Claude and the Marigny/Bywater

I seriously doubt you went to the restaurants local went to if you were just on the peninsula. True locals (people born and raised here) eat at very few restaurants on the peninsula.

There is nothing New Orleans does better than Charleston on the good end of the spectrum. There’s a reason why Charleston is being flooded with transplants and not just the city, but all over the Lowcountry. Meanwhile, New Orleans natives can’t wait to get to Houston or anywhere in Texas.

Charleston only has MUSC, the medical university for the state, a large VA which sees patients from Georgia to North Carolina and does Telehealth nationwide, and a little company called Boeing.

Yeah I read that post and chuckled as well.

Soon to be the deepest port on the east coast, just maintaining ground as the second largest port on the coast for cargo. They may ship a BMW or 3 as well out of here

Charleston has astronomically more retired millionaires than NOLA.

It’s an awesome city
