Doesn't Charleston market itself as "the Paris of the South"?

ETA: I've never been.....but I hear St. Patrick's Day is big there

Smells better than Nola.

Although many of the Charleston ghettos are now hipster havens, there is still plenty of crime to go 'round there. And the traffic has become Atlanta-level unbearable. I give Charleston a meh-plus these days. The saltmarsh and cool beaches like Folly and Edisto are sweet but the overall un-livability and cost of living have made it much less desirable for me personally over the past 15 years.

Eta downvotes from basic bitches who've been on "vacay" to Charleston once.

I think they are two very distinctly different cities. But I'll take Charleston every day of the week.

I’ve lived in this state all my life and have never heard either of these.

Downtown Charleston is kind of like the French Quarter if you take out all the litter, crime, odor, and poverty.

I was there last weekend. I was surprised how much the area I was at reminded me of the French quarter.....without bums and fearing for my life.

I downvoted you and I went to college and worked in Charleston.

Charleston’s ghettos are long gone with the exception of North Charleston.

Charleston is way better than Nola. Edisto, Folly, IOP. The food is great in both cities.

Chucktown doesn’t have a Bourbon St type area but that’s another plus.

It also smells much better.
