I just went to donate blood, walked up to the door and they told me I needed a mask. Told her I’d be back when that was no longer the case.
I'd probably just put on a mask so I can donate blood to save lives. Seems like an easy thing to do for such a great cause.
But that's just me. I donate a power red every chance I get. I'm a universal donor.

My take from all this is the CDC is generally clueless
By no means am I sticking up for the CDC, but they actually do a lot of good for us. Their problem is that if it's not in their database, then they are very much clueless...just like the rest of us.

So what are the goalposts now? Still saving one life?

We’re probably two weeks away from the CDC saying masks are pointless
Also Italy.

So you're saying I can throw away my 2000 pack of surgical gloves?
What size? I use them bad boys when I'm cleaning my guns. That's a lifetime supply!

Oh man, what about all those FB videos that show how easy it is to spread this disease by touching doorknobs and stuff?

its a politicized bureaucracy, like all the others, infested with overpaid agenda-driven bureaucrats susceptible to outside influence. Its been given far too much authority and influence. Time for massive reform through terminations and reassignments.
I'm starting to believer that every public job- elected, appointed, or filled thru traditional means- should be term limited. Even the janitors of the buildings.

This is in direct contrast to what we have been told. Who was fired? This is a monumental frick up. All credibility is hopelessly lost.
Why does this have to be the case? Shouldn't this be good news that we can act on to open more things up?
I'm not saying the anger wouldn't be warranted if there was evidence of knowing this sooner and purposely making bad recommendations, but it doesn't seem to be the case at this point.
ETA: Not saying that we shouldn't look into whether the best information is being used, but I think our time (right now) could be better spent acting on this great news.

I wasn't going anywhere anyway.

But trust everything we say, because we're scientists.

There's tons of pre-print and early-stage research being put out more than ever now... ideas change over time as evidence improves. The more experiments are done, and the more data is collected, the better the scientific ideas become.
Not that it can't be politicized or skewed to fit an agenda, but updating recommendations doesn't always automatically equal malicious/intentional misleading.

The CDC is Germans. There was a German study a month ago where they said this. I think I saw it posted here.

I really hope we never have this kind of world wide overreaction again.

Pre-print and early stage research on some obscure website is nowhere near the same thing as “experts” calling for millions of deaths from a 4% death rate for weeks on tv, flip flop on mask wearing and surface infections, etc.
The scientific community should be completely ashamed of the public faces that have been representing them throughout this whole thing. They would do well to demand those faces be changed.

I'm not saying the severity/longevity of response to this has been remotely appropriate for what we know/when we know, but better information being used doesn't negate all information from that source or make the change inherently malicious.

I’m not crapping on this method of communication. I’m pointing out most people aren’t even aware of its existence. I had never heard of medrxiv.org prior to this, and I’m quite sure most people still haven’t.

The data from the Diamond Princess cruise ship passengers was publicly available on March 9, well before any lockdowns started and while the “experts” were still clamoring about highly contagious virus with 4% mortality rate killing millions of people on tv every single day.
That data was as close to a live, controlled experiment as we’re ever going to get with this and it called for a 0.5% mortality rate, 17% infection rate, and mostly impacting older people.
There was plenty of accurate, complete data available to make decisions from the beginning. Why do you think it wasn’t?

There it is. “They were just acting on the best information they had at the time. Models can change with more data.”
If you have incomplete data that produces models calling for extreme outlier results, how about not using that data to implement draconian measures that ruined tens of millions of lives. And definitely don’t go on all of the major tv networks touting the results produced from this incomplete data.
Does that sound reasonable?
