CDC director: "greater risk to our society is to have schools closed"
Posted by HailHailtoMichigan! on 7/7/20 at 1:25 pm644
During the hearing today, so don't have a link.
So the cdc director, pediatric groups, and other authorities have all said schools are safe to reopen, because the studies just don't indicate that kids can transmit it.
more: "we need to reopen schools, and we need to plan to have our schools remain open"
Teachers unions have a lot of leverage though. They will get some big concessions before they agree to go back. At this point might be worth it though. There will be mentally and physically broken parents and families if schools remain closed in the fall.

Our plan is supposed to be announced tonight. I don’t expect a full reopening. It’s really ridiculous. I saw the video with Rand Paul and Fauci, and all data points to opening schools.

Deaths dropped today too, but don’t expect the media to tell you that. Just moar doom and gloom

Did they make a distinction as to what level of schools they are talking about? Elementary and high schools aren’t really the same.

We have to just flatten the curve then we can go back to normal. Promise.

“Teachers unions have a lot of leverage though.”
Recent article reported that teacher union NEA is increasing its rates because people are leaving in droves. For our students, I hope this is accurate.

This is my biggest worry. My daughter is 6. She needs to be around other kids her age. I’m a teacher and she can only learn so much academically from me. A great deal of their learning at that age comes from learning from each other, watching other kids struggle and overcome. That can’t happen at home on a computer.

I think a 6ft rule for teachers might be what this country needs.
Cut down on all that student fricking they are doing.

Crazy because my teacher friends and I have taught 10 years and not one of us is in a teachers’ union. We don’t know anything about them. We just love teaching and are ready to go back full time.

My daughter is 3 1/2 and is going into Pre-K4 program. We unenrolled her from daycare in the midst of all of this and in anticipation of her moving to school. She misses her friends and interacting with others at school and keeps talking about how she can't wait to go back to school.
These kids need the social interaction. I hope our dear leaders allow for schools to open.

Did Fauci take his mask off right after his role was finished this time?

You're doing it wrong, then.
Or, you're just a liar.

Every teacher I know wants to go back to the physical classroom.

Lot of teachers have kids though, I'm curious how that would come into play? Hard for a teacher to teach with their own kids at home

Taking a guess here, but it has been pointed out that in some environments, schools are the first to recognize signs of domestic abuse, offer corrective medical care like vision and hearing exams, and often provide the only meals that some children receive.
In those unfortunate (poor parenting) situations, not returning to school could certainly be seen as detrimental to society as a whole.
