Taking a guess here, but it has been pointed out that in some environments, schools are the first to recognize signs of domestic abuse, offer corrective medical care like vision and hearing exams, and often provide the only meals that some children receive.

In those unfortunate (poor parenting) situations, not returning to school could certainly be seen as detrimental to society as a whole.

Not to mention, it would really put a damper on alot of sex lives.

Edit OP when you get a link. I need to send it to my wife and continue accumulating evidence that her fears are unfounded.

Recent article reported that teacher union NEA is increasing its rates because people are leaving in droves
Hemorrhaging members so their strategy is to raise their dues to prevent more members from leaving?

Lol at all the breeders in this thread that can’t stand it when their kid gets a month off school. While y’all are paying 30 grand a year for travel ball and private school, I’ll be in my man cave or seeing the new marvel movie. Sure is nice to be free

There will be mentally and physically broken parents and families if schools remain closed in the fall.

I’m not disagreeing, and I’m definitely on the “reopen the schools” team, but it is amazing to me the outcry we’ve seen when it comes to parents actually having to spend more time and energy on the children they made.

Every teacher I know wants to go back to the physical classroom.

Yup. Part time in class and part time online is more work than being in the classroom every day. Our states teachers union poll showed that the teachers overwhelmingly favored going back to a normal schedule in the fall

Some of us work and although we still help our kids with school, we aren't able to provide 5-8 hours of schooling everyday like they get when they are actually in school. I agree, they probably aren't getting 8 full hours of schooling there, or even 7, but even 5-6, at my house, we can't provide that 5 days a week.

ETA: Also, history and science are the only subjects I'm worth a frick in. My wife knows science and biology very well. She's good at maybe writing papers and shite, but neither of us are worth a frick in elementary math and english.

ETA 2: When we initially had our kids there was this thing called school, that we both for some dumb reason, counted on, for our kids to go to. They could learn most of the stuff there and we could pick up the pieces and help them at home. That may or may not be the case now.
