I saw KC and the Sunshine band 30 years ago - it was a really good show.
I look for stellar musicians playing at small venues, like the Louisiana Grandstand in Shreveport. I got a chance to see Zach Top with only 400 people.

Easy fix to this problem. No more online sales. Wanna go to a show? Gotta get tickets the old school way. Take your arse down to Goudchaux’s/Maison Blanche and wait in line. 4 ticket max. Cash only. Some of my fondest memories were camping out for GnR, Van Halen, Pearl Jam tix. Will never happen obviously.

Will not happen, the biggest scalpers are never brought to task. You may have experienced this with SEC schools.
Not singling out any school but you can verify if your school loots a bit like this
2,000 = 2 season tickets for home team
+
10,000 = mandatory annual "donation" (the real scalper) for right to by tickets
2K = face
10K = scalping by school
12K = real cost of tickets

travel/crew cost takes another quarter
Seems really high in todays market

The band makes about $10 per ticket, split 5 ways among the members.
So $7K per member for a nights work?
$200,000 / $56 per = 3,572 tickets
3,572 x $10 = $35,715 for the band
$35,715 / 5 members = $7,143 per
thats $21K for a 3 day weekend, and over half a million a year for 25 weekends

Because you morons go to concerts LOL.
I cannot believe people spend money to go watch people play and sing with other people they dont know for hours on end spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
I cannot imagine a worse way to spend money.

I would love to see Ticketmaster crash and burn.

Without the band, there’s $0 for anyone.
The venue made $100k for hosting. The band makes $7k. Everyone who showed up, showed up to see the band.
You don’t see an issue there?
He went to UL-M.
He likely doesn't see much.

I get what you’re saying but the band didn’t have to accept the terms of the deal either.
You’re getting closer to the problem. Live Nation has a monopoly on arena shows. Was going to post a list in LA but hit submit to early. But the monopoly is real.
ETA: The following are Live Nation venues in LA:
- Baton Rouge River Center
- Smoothie King Center
- New Orleans Lakefront
- Varsity Theatre
- Tipitina’s (all locations)
- Texas Club
- Cajun Dome
- Cajun Field
- New Orleans Convention Center
- House of Blues NOLA
- L’Auberge (BR and LC)
- Saenger Theatre
… and that’s just when I got tired of looking more of them up. If you want to play arena shows or even large bar shows, it’s really hard to do so without playing at Live Nation venues.

I’ve just stopped going to shite. I gave up my LSU season tickets. Haven’t been to a concert or anything else that requires tickets for assigned seating in like 3 years now.

We had to show passport last year for tickets we bought for the French Open to enter the venue
Name on our tickets had to match our Passport

Ticket prices, and then the fricking fees. Gotta love buying two $50 tickets and when you check out the total is like $185.
Didn’t they sign some legislation to prevent that recently?
You know how to stop all this, right?

One thing I will give credit for in England - their tickets can only be resold for face value or less.

you're on a website dedicated to people paying money to watch 18 year olds play a child's game.

That’s how I used to buy tickets. I’d go to the Superdome or UNO Lakefront Arena during lunch and buy. Cheaper than online. No performer is worth the cost with the excess fees these days.

I agree with the premise of the article but I don’t necessarily feel bad for the band like this is trying to make me feel.
I believe that number they quoted was just the fees and not the actual ticket price. And of course the band gets money from merch sales and maybe some from the concessions as well?

Pretty simple fix, if you buy tickets using an artist pre-sale code the original driver's license or credit card must be shown when entering. It's what Rogan does at his comedy club to prevent scalping.
But they'll never do that because Ticketmaster makes money from scalpers. Each time someone buys and sells tickets TM makes more money so why would they want true fans to buy the tickets? They want scalpers to pay fees buying the tickets, scalpers paying fees selling the tickets, then the fans going to the concert to pay fees buying the tickets to use. It's a scam, hence why they refuse to do anything about it.
