There is not might about it...he will end up in purgatory at best.

Why do people expect a religious leader to shut their faith off and give niceties instead of a faith based approach to things? I don’t get this. Just hire a funeral home and let whoever speak, but don’t expect a person of deep conviction to shut their faith off and give you what you want to hear, in rubber stamping shite for you with their religion.

It’s called human decency. They lost their son to suicide. He didn’t die in a car accident or get sick. He took his own life. His parents will spend the rest of their lives tearing themselves to pieces trying to figure out why or if they could have prevented it. Telling them that their son will be denied heaven is a horrible thing to do. I grew up Catholic. I know about the beliefs and traditions. But not one fricking time did our preist tell anyone that their loved ones would be denied heaven. Why? Because he wasn’t a piece of shite, and it’s no one’s place to pass that kind of judgement.

Maybe one day humanity will realize that religion is a man made scam. Seek to find the divine within. Religious dogma and teaching leads you on a wild goose chase to nowhere but pain and confusion.

That priest should just kill himself.
And let the father of the boy give his eulogy.

Oh, and before all my fellow Catholics decide that one who commits suicide is automatically damned in the eyes of the church, you should check your catechism. Not the one I learned in the late 50s and early 60s, the new one

Nothing in what you posted contradicts what the priest said. In fact, what he purportedly said is in line with it.

However, the next paragraph from the Catechism says this: Grave psychological disturbances, anguish, or grave fear of hardship, suffering, or torture can diminish the responsibility of the one committing suicide. The act itself is always a grave matter; but for an action to be a mortal sin, the person must know that it is a grave matter, and he must do it voluntarily. The modern Church understands that depression and other psychological disturbances that might lead a person to suicide are true illnesses, which can significantly mitigate both a person's understanding and free will.

Straight from the. Catechism section 2283.
This priest was out of bounds bigly

The priest would say he was just telling the truth, I guess. But that sure don’t seem very Christ-like.

I’m not Catholic, and because I don’t want anyone telling me what to believe, I won’t tell anyone else what to believe. My own internal moral compass tells me that this priest did unnecessary harm to people in grief. I would not have done it, even if I believed as the priest apparently does. That’s just me.

This was a shite day for the boy’s parents exacerbated by the fact that the boys football coach who supposedly was asked by parents not to attend the funeral showed up and was asked to leave...due to the fact he was supposedly too hard on the kid...

The story reports the priest said he MIGHT be barred from Heaven. Not was absolutely, but "might."

You're right. Priest did nothing wrong. That's why he won't be allowed to do funerals anymore.

Morons like you are why religious people get mocked.
