That Tornado Paigeyy streamer looks to be about 30 miles east of the eye, and it still looks pretty rough. Hard to imagine what it's like closer in.

Our people at that same resort still have power and WiFi. Gotta be shutting that off soon though. They said it’s quiet inside their shelter, so it must be some hellaciously thick concrete surrounding them.

This has been the best video from inside an eye that we have ever seen. We've gotten amazing footage over the past few days.

NHC calls official landfall near New Hope - 892 mb and 185 mph

quote:

Hurricane Melissa Tropical Cyclone Update
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL AL132025
100 PM EDT Tue Oct 28 2025

...CATEGORY 5 MELISSA MAKES LANDFALL IN JAMAICA...
...ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL HURRICANE LANDFALLS ON RECORD IN THE
ATLANTIC BASIN...

Melissa has made landfall in southwestern Jamaica near New Hope with
estimated maximum sustained winds of 185 mph (295 km/h) and an
estimated minimum central pressure of 892 mb (26.34 inches).

THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION! Do
not leave your shelter as the eye passes over, as winds will
quickly, and rapidly increase on the other side of the eye.
Residents should remain in place through the passage of these
life-threatening conditions. To protect yourself from wind, the
best thing you can do is put as many walls as possible between you
and the outside. An interior room without windows, ideally one where
you can also avoid falling trees, is the safest place you can be in
a building. You can cover yourself with a mattress and wear a
helmet for added protection.

The next position update will be provided with the intermediate
advisory at 200 PM EDT (1800 UTC).

Oyster Bay / Falmouth may get the brunt of Melissa - but it may weaken slightly before the worst gets there.

The eye is 17 miles wide - so 8 or 9 miles from center is where worst winds start. Then that eyewall band is another about 10 miles wide. Overall, 10 to 20 miles from center is the worst wind.

Oyster Bay is about 12-15 miles from where the center is forecast to track.

Of course Montego Bay will also get the northern and/or northwestern eyewall winds but may get a break if the eye passes there.

Yup, in wind speed and pressure.
Although, we many never know for sure.
For many years some experts have questioned the data gathering of that storm 90 years ago.

The bad news for places like Montego Bay is that it is on the western side if the eye, and as Melissa’s eye passes to the east and pulls away, there will be an onshore flow in that area pushing water in.
