I spend everyday traveling the roads in Louisiana. And I gotta say, when I see a vehicle in the left lane, fast or slow, chances are the plates are from Texas.
It seems in Texas, the left lane is the right lane.

The way I see it is that the left lane is for passing, so if you're in the left lane, you should be trying to pass cars that were in front of you in the right lane.
As someone behind someone in the left lane, so long as you are passing cars at a reasonable speed, I just wait until you can get back over.
But if you're going to match speed or only go 1-2 MPH faster than the car next to you in the right lane, then I'll start to get annoyed.
I don't tailgate regardless, simply because of idiots like the OP who intentionally try to cause accidents.

I drive a company truck with a robust GPS/monitoring device. Between that and the fact that I'm paid by the hour, I'm not getting that thing past the posted speed limit. I'll slide over to the shoulder if it's available, but, otherwise, the tailgaters can respectfully kiss my pasty white arse. If I'm driving dead-on the speed limit, in the proper lane, and unable to pull over, I just sit back and laugh at 'em.
Was driving in the right hand lane on a 4 lane the other day. Guy behind me was trying to get around, but the left-hand lane drivers wouldn't let him over. So, he stayed on my bumper for a mile or so. When he finally got around me, he flips me a bird, swings over in front of me, and hits his brakes. Not sure WTF he wanted me to do or why he was pissed at me, but maybe he was able to exorcise some demons or something. Whatever. I just laughed at him and gave him a thumbs up when I passed him at the next red light.
