The fact that it was two separate vehicles leads me to believe that you were driving like a dick. The brake check brag tells me I was correct in my assumption.

I don't do brake checks.

I just take my foot off the accelerator and slow down gradually until I'm about 10 mph under the limit.

This usually drives the tailgater bananas and I love it.

Then, if it's a natural stopping situation (red light, stop sign, etc.), I'll stop at a normal pace and then hit the brakes harder once they are used to my rate of stopping. Sort of a "stealth" brake check.

Finally, if I have to turn, I will come to a complete stop and swing really wide really slowly so they can't pass. I can usually see steam rising from their eyballs.

frick em! It pisses me off to no end. A few years back I was in the middle lane with a right lane that would soon become a turn lane, and a lane to my left. The limit was 60, but I was running around 70. Both lanes beside me were clear enough to pass me.

A white woman in a black Tahoe was behind me, riding my arse. She literally had two choices to pass me, but stayed on my arse. I let it ride for about a minute. Then, I tapped my brakes twice. I didn't slam them on, but just a couple taps. She didn't back off. I waited a few seconds longer, and then laid down on the brakes and damn near completley stopped. I looked back just in time to see her all over her wheel, the Tahoe sling sideways, and everything in the back come flying forward, toward her.

I then went on my way with her never again being in sight.

This was my argument recently. I asked friends to take speed out of the equation and they couldn’t so this was the scenario I used. You and 1 other motorist are on the road. The speed limit Is 35mph. You’re doing 10mph in the LEFT lane and another vehicle comes up behind you doing 20mph. Would you get out of the left lane or do you expect the other vehicle to drive around you? Would your answer change if you are the car doing 20mph coming up behind the other vehicle?

My conclusion. If you drive slow in the left lane, expect people to drive around you but expect them to move when you are the faster vehicle approaching then you’re just an a-hole and selfish.

Doesn’t matter what speed you’re going. Get in the right lane
