I believe Carnival takes their ships to the Bahama Shipyard.

Yeah, Grand Bahama Shipyard. I believe they do external construction there as well.

While the ship remains seawothy, that MDR is probably now out of commission. They can get the pax back to NOLA, but I would imagine they will want / need to fix before they continue new cruises.

And this all assuming the accident was due to pilot error, and not due to a failure of a thruster / azipod. If that happened, of course you have to dry dock the ship to fix that. And Grand Bahama Shipyard is still kind of a mess due to that hurricane earlier this year. When they replaced the azipods on another Carnival ship, they did a floating dry dock. That might be in the cards again.

Yeah. It's definitely going to have to get repaired at a shipyard

Shipyards are also super busy right now with scrubber installs before IMO 2020 regs come into effect.

Micky Arison says get that ship back on the water there is no time to fix these superficial scrape marks.

"Frizzell called the damage “very superficial," but photos on Twitter show broken windows and railings along at least two decks of the right rear of Carnival Glory.

Miami-based Carnival Cruise Line said via email that the company is assessing the damage to both ships, but there is no impact that will prevent either ship from sailing.

The company said that future sailings on both ships will not be affected."

Good luck in the Mexican courts. They know the value of those cruise ship to their economy. The injured guests will get half off a future cruise and a cabin upgrade.

By superficial I'm guessing they mean it doesn't affect the structual integrity of the ship. And that is likely correct... it's an above water damage and nothing is supported by the section that is damaged. Superficial is probably not the right word though...

Nothing will prevent either ship from sailing... but at some point they have to fix the damage and I don't see how they can fix that without a trip to the shipyard... if that's all the damage, and there aren't any busted azipods or thrusters, then they probably don't even need dry dock. But it's going to probably to cause at least one week long cruise to get the axe.

Yup. The way they price cruises these days... most of the time, they are almost full... but holidays they are full with high fare pax, and yes, someone's Christmas vacation is going to get ruined.

And if they do go to Grand Bahama, considering transit it might be a 2 week cancellation. So might knock out New Years as well.

Not to mention, no cruise means no work for the shore-side team at the port, no work for the porters, no parking fees for the parking garages, etc. People have to cancel flights and pre/post hotel stays, etc.

Looking at carnivals site, looks like they pulled every sailing in January AND most of February.

Also, looks like Carnival Legend will be fine. Will buff right out
