I've bought three cars from Carmax. The most positive thing was already mentioned. They have about every make and model on their lot. Usually have several of the popular makes/models to choose from. It's nice to have that in one place.
I like carmax for browsing/test driving but I see no reason to buy from them. Their cars are priced on the higher end. Even if you don't want to haggle, why not just pay sticker somewhere else? Unless they have your dream car with all of the right options, I don't get the appeal

Sold two cars to Carmax, no problems at all. If I were in the market for a used car, I would probably go to them first.

Has anyone had any experience purchasing a vehicle from a Carmax dealership? They’re sheer inventory is a plus. They claim no haggle pricing. Have you found that to be accurate?
The quote they gave me for my pickup was great but when I went to fill out all the paperwork, the guy said he knew how to do a business finance. He fricked it up and I kept telling him that he was wrong and he came back when it was said and done and said "good news, you're approved." I asked him what the rate was and he told me it was 19.99% and I laughed at him and said "i told you that you were fricking it up". He tried to convince me that 20% wasn't bad and I told him I had two cards in my pocket and either would pay for the car with half the interest on it.
My end thoughts on them:
- if you pay cash, you can get a good deal. they truly don't haggle prices from my experience and one of my buddy's in birmingham.
- Their financing is a joke. if you get from them, plan on financing somewhere else.
- they give some crazy good quotes. Like 2k higher than I got for a trade in on my pickup.

I purchased our last vehicle from them. It was easy for the most part. We wanted something different and I paid $500 ish to have it shipped in from across the country. Price wasn't the cheapest nor the most expensive it was out of shear convenience for me.
The only problem I had was that they knew I was buying the car so they put a new salesperson on it and he screwed up the paperwork 3xs and had to get him to fix it. We ended up being there after they closed/dark and had to drive all the way back to MS.
I will say for peace of mind if you aren't looking for the best deal they do a good job of reviewing the vehicles before they put them out on the lot. If there is any hint of something being wrong with the vehicle they low ball you or send it straight to auction and don't put it on the lot.

Wow, Lot of Used Car Salesmen on the OT talking smack and downvoting the competition.

If you’re one of those people that is willing to pay more to not be bothered with negotiating, then it’s right up your alley

If you attracted to the no haggle places check Enterprise used car sales. They actually have good deals.

Guarantee they are bumping the interest rate up several points.

My oldest brother had them buy each of his last two vehicles and each of his latest ones were bought from Carmax. He hates haggling with dealerships.

Carmax is for lazy or scared to negotiate people that aren't concerned with getting the best price. Not sure what else to tell you.

How much more money though? I agree it is probably priced a little higher, but I don't think it is too far out of line of most of their vehicles.
Plus, they don't sell new cars so there isn't a "sticker" MSRP price on the car.

Completely depends on the vehicle, but at least $1500 on vehicles I was looking at the last time I was in the market for something used, which were in the $18k-$20k range.
The few hours I spent looking for and negotiating a better deal were easily worth that to me.

They had a truck I wanted but only offered 19k for trade in. I sold privately for 32k. frick dem

It's no haggle because it's not the best deal you could get. If you aren't comfortable negotiating, it's an ok price.

This No Haggle BS is a complete sham anyways. A shite ton of used car places refuse to haggle. They act like the listed price is the best they can do. Or pretend like the listed price is some kind of magical sale price they are losing money already.

Never bought from them but I did use their price as a starting off point when looking for deals on the car I did purchase as I knew exactly the make and model I wanted.

My neighbors wife worked for them for a few years up until a month ago. The no haggle pricing is true. It was one of the reasons she liked working there, since she didn't have to play any kind of negotiating game.

I’ve purchased my last 3 vehicles from Carmax, and have had great experiences.. my favorite thing about them is that you can search their inventory online from all over the country, find exactly what you want and have it shipped to you..i dont know about you, but when i’m spending $20k, $30k or more on something, i want EXACTLY what i want.
Also, even though i’m In sales for a living, i have no desire to haggle with car salesmen.. i think some people get off on *thinking* they ‘won’ the transaction; i dont have that need.. Could you find some guy selling the car you want on Craigslist, or at the dealership on the corner, for cheaper? Sure, but you wont know what you’re getting.. i’ve read that out of all the cars that Carmax gets from trade-ins etc, only like 5% make it to their lots for sale, the rest get auctioned off.. Im not sure how true that is, but every car i’ve Ever seen or bought at a Carmax was generally low-mileage, newer (or looks brand new), and very clean... i also like that you can buy an extended warranty thru them (something you cant do from a guy on Craigslist) , and i’ve Had very good experiences with their service dept.
The one drawback i saw with Carmax is that when i lived in NOLA, the closest Carmax was in BR, but now they’ve opened one in Kennabrah.

We have purchased two vehicles from Carmax. Great experience both times.
Carmax is geared specifically for those who don't like to or don't care to haggle. So, as a result, it's typically more expensive than what you might find at a dealership. However, for me, the additional cost (about $500) was nullified (in my assessment) by how quick and pleasant the whole process was.
I found my truck online. It shipped for free (since it was within 250 miles of BR). Got a call when it arrived. Drove it. Had my finances already worked out through my bank and the person who assisted me already had most of the process done when I went to complete the sale.
All together took me about 50 minutes.
Been really happy.
I don't have any ill will against dealerships. I just preferred this method.

But why pay a premium for a no-haggle experience when you could walk into a dealership and pay a LOWER sticker price with no haggling required?
