what job was that?

Just a stupid young women entry level job being the company president's exec assistant that he absolutely did not need because he was never actually there. My parents wanted me to leave bars/restaurants the minute I graduated college so I took the first office setting job that would have me.

Job would be perfect for someone who wanted to just do nothing and make a low salary, but I was miserable.

I actually like problem solving, and like doing it on my own terms even more, so working remotely suits me much better. 100x more productive than I'd ever be chained to a desk, and the happiness level makes me far more willing to take care of something in the middle of the night vs. putting it off for the next day.

The article mentions culture, and this is exactly what comes to mind for me when I think company culture.

I had a recruiter try and get me to put a 3 day notice in at a high level finance position...I was just astonished and said EAD they're getting 3-4 weeks minimum depending on what we negotiate.

There's a lot of truth in this thread but I haven't seen this mentioned.

You don't put the two week in for the "company" you put it in for your coworkers you've been slogging through the BS with so you don't completely fck them over.

Now if you hate them, I guess you can rationalize it anyway you want.

Good way to burn bridges.

Tbh this is way overvalued.

Connections are great, and you shouldn't burn them needlessly, but if I'm leaving a job, the employer has given me a good reason (shitty pay/no advancement opportunity/overall treating people like shite). I will certainly not be returning to them even if my new gig falls through.

Also, a part of the reason (imo) why shitty managers survive and stay shitty is because every one is so scared of "burning a bridge" that they lie through their teeth about how great it was to work for them on their way out.

I straight up roasted my last boss in the exit interview. Who knows if anything will change as a result, but maybe some people higher up the food chain will take notice of that management group's shitty behavior.

Ive never worked at a company that just fired people for no reason.

The abrupt firing would basically be something very bad happening. And even if it was over a discipline thing, you are usually written up and explained to that you will be fired if behavior doesnt change.

People saying companies dont have loyalty are a bit full of shite.

I work with a decent amount of interns, and they really want to do more community outreach.

Asking for the normal 2 weeks seems to be harder and harder to do, despite the fact that the company would get pissed if you do it to them in return

I would never join a company that wouldn't let me give a two weeks notice to my current firm.

Good. Recruiters/companies commonly “GHOST” interviewees. About time they’re on the receiving end..

This. Coming out of college I was ghosted by two companies, who then turned around and wanted my services less than six months later after I made some waves at the place that hired me. Screw burning bridges, I told them exactly where they could shove the offer.

I agree. Pretty sure if we ever have a layoff, they will give us at least 6 months of pay.

It took me a while to build up to working for better companies so I guess at the lower end I could see people not wanting to be loyal, but I am loyal as fck to who I work for now.
And yes, the culture a company has can be a big deal. You work with good people and have good benefits, employees are more dedicated. Hell, they give women 4 months off with pay when having a baby. The men get 2 months.

Yeah, im not saying companies don't lay people off, but they usually give you severence. Hell if you work a minimum wage job, your company is paying into unemployment, you arent. Youll get that money.

A company will do what it has to to keep the good ones.

It really depends how that questioned was asked. It could just mean people are answering the obvious right answer instead “I want to work for dr evil”

I doubt I don’t care was an option

Good lord...recruiters. I've found through multiple experiences that Accounting & Finance job recruiters are just generally terrible people. They don't care about you, your family, or your current job. They just want you to sign the dotted line of whatever BS opportunity they can get and have you start as soon as possible so they can get their commission.

Yep. Besides not burning a bridge, the other benefit of providing notice is that you don't screw over your coworkers. I've been on the other side of that.

The days of company/employee loyalty are long gone.

Went out the window with pensions and retirement plans for lifetime employees.
Tell me how many companies that still do this have high turnover rates?
I got fired, over the phone, from a company I was told was mine to buy, just so the salary dump would make the value go up.
There are no rules anymore. No one is honest. No one GAF about you.

Chances are companies are not investing in background checks and references. Which is why they never find out that their potential hire is a ghosting POS.

Not at all, was the best thing that has ever happened to me behind my wife and daughter.
I almost took out a pretty large loan to buy a company that I ended up starting for <5% of what they are asking and will very much be profitable 1 year in. I'm now sitting in my own dream office, 5 minutes from my house after winning one of the best contracts in the state.
I don't get grumpy or mad.

I had a very similar experience in BR out of college, except it was door to door to people’s frickin home from 10 am to 7 pm. Felt like we were a wrong knock from being shot a couple times

Straight up had the same model of a pyramid scheme

I was so rattled, at the end they had me fill out a paper to see how I felt about everything and get feedback, I ended up putting my moms cell number instead of mine by accident and they called her and she called me and it was a clusterfrick they offered me the job and I was like “yeah I’ll need a couple days to think it over” and I could tell by his voice he knew what I meant and that I wasn’t taking it

Ironically, I’m waiting on a call right now for a company to see if I got a job. Guy told me I should get a call by the EOD today so if they don’t call by lunch tommorow I’m calling their arse.

frick this lingering around waiting to hear results shite. Makes me way too anxious.
