Yes. I filed a police report and my insurance policy had Uninsured Motorist coverage which is for cases like this. I had no problem getting the car fixed.

I am also glad she is safe. I carry a $2000 deductible for collision and UM. Maybe you have $2000 to pay for someone that creates a crime, I don't.

$2k deductible is a choice. You made yours.

Sure blame the people who carry insurance for an accident caused by someone who likely doesn’t.

Filing a small collision claim on a brand new car =/= flopping out of a car like a trout and getting Gordon when you get tapped at a stop light.

I love these threads, everyone wants to give their answer and like 4 people know what they are talking about.

To those asking if he has UM, if this is a brand new car it should have collision. You’d file a collision claim. If you have collision and your car is in a wreck regardless of the other persons insurance status, you’d file a collision claim.

Generally the only way to have UMPD is to decline collision.

This - police don’t issue tickets when it comes to parking lot fender benders.

Hit and run. The police wouldn't do crap because they said it happened in a parking lot on private property.

Well we do have the first two letters on the vehicle plates and know the make and model of the vehicle. I cant imagine (even in Texas) a license that starts with KM on a silver/gray Tahoe is a hard to find.

Then go find it. Lafayette PD isn't going door to door to every Tahoe that starts with those letter God knows how far away from their jurisdiction.

I get your arguement in principle, but this is one of those want in one hand and piss in the other scenarios

I’ve heard of buying a vehicle for kids graduating high school because they don’t have immediately paychecks but a 22 year old college graduate going into the workforce?

I hate parking lots. I always park in the grass next door.

Had this happen, and even after finding out who the person was, I still ended up having to file uninsured motorist claim and pay the deductible. Sucks.

How bad is the damage? If it's significant, I'd file a police report. If it's $500 or so, I'd honestly probably just deal with it while simultaneously posting the info on social media to try to doxx the MF.

Good luck!

My son’s freshman year at LSU, his Mustang GT was parked in his dorm parking lot for one of the games. A truck backed into his car and did over $6,000 in damage then drove away. More than one witness provided the guy’s license plate number and someone provided a video of the truck driving off. We still weren’t able to get his insurance tp pay. Last year his car was parked at his girlfriend’s apartment complex while he was at my house and then in the hospital with a kidney stone. Brought him back to BR and his car was hit again, this time for $3K in damages. Uninsured motorist coverage comes in handy.

Well, "KM" narrows it down to approximately 260,000 possible license plate numbers.

Narrowing that down to just silver or gray Tahoes should get you down to just around 20,000 - 30,000 vehicles (about 100,000 sold per year in US, probably about 10,000 per year in Texas with a little less than half of the colors offered susceptible of being described as silver/gray).

"Especially with red on the bumber" means that every one of the silver or gray Tahoes would have to be visually inspected by someone in order to find the culprit, assuming the paint hasn't been removed.

I can't imagine that it would be hard to find either.

Police report and an Uninsured Motorist claim. Took it to the State Farm Claim Center, no problems.

Same with Geico, paid our deductible and moved on. We had rental insurance, so they provided a car for the week or so it took to fix.

Happened to my sister years ago back when she was in high school. Didn't have iphones then so no pics. My dad had just added uninsured motorist coverage the week before. People saw the truck hit her car and drive off but that does you no good. Ended up processing through insurance.

I am pretty aware of the the fact the deductible choice was mine alone. Thanks though.

I am more concerned with justice verses indemnity. It seems like many disagree and have no problems with this if "insurance pays".

Interesting... 8 million cars are registered in Texas. So you are saying that 4% of all vehicles in Texas have license plates that begin with KM. Wow. Ok then.

I will look for the 15,000 Tahoes that are silver/gray with license plates beginning with KM I guess. It will certainly take awhile.

You can't always get justice particularly in these situations. That's one reason you have insurance. Sometimes, you have to suck it up and let it go. It's not worth letting it eat at you. I don't think anyone is saying they have no problem with insurance paying. They are being realistic and moving on.
