Same here. Problem is sometimes it’s fun to ‘stir the pot’ a little and then I’m up.

Just start tonight. Quit drinking. If you don’t sleep well, you can still have a decently productive day at work tomorrow. Then you will probably be so exhausted that by tomorrow night or definitely Saturday night you will pass out and get the best sleep you’ve had in a while. This will put you on the path. Don’t take any naps and don’t lay around the couch. Work in your yard Saturday, go fishing, bike riding, whatever you like to do. The point is keep active and don’t give in to the misery. Your body will get accustomed to not having the alcohol to fall asleep in a couple weeks.

Mother fricking this.

Had the literally the exact same problem as the OP, but I just went and decided I needed to stop drinking at least for a couple weeks. First night I didn't sleep well, but went and did everything I had to do at work the next day and when it came to going to sleep, I ended up passing out rather easily. And on weekends as long as your active and doing shite all day, you should be able to sleep easily again.

I've gone back to drinking a little bit, but I'm not where I had to rely on alcohol to sleep and it makes a world of difference.

Haunting voices from the past. Someone I know said that about a year before he died.

You're an alcoholic. Get help or you will die soon.

Damn man. Haha I think some of y’all are blowing this shite out of proportion. I said 2-3 beers or 2-3 mixed drinks. That doesn’t do shite but knock the edge off the day. I could understand if I had to get drunk and/or pass out.

Should probably get to the gym or start some long cardio sessions. You will start to sleep better

Cope.

Don’t kid yourself. Even that amount can be a problem. You’ve said yourself that you need it to sleep. That’s a problem

My plate is pretty full and stress is a plenty right now.

I dealt with this for years before finally putting down the bottle a few months ago. We drink to deal with stress without realizing that the drinking is actually causing you stress. Not to mention that the alcohol inhibits your ability to effectively deal with the normal day-to-day stressors of life.

It is truly a vicious cycle once you get caught in it. (1) Drink to relieve stress; (2) wake up more stressed than before because you have not dealt with the thing causing you stress; (3) drink to relive stress . . .

Quitting drinking has been the best thing I've ever done for myself. I wish you the best. I recommend "This Naked Mind" by Annie Grace.

While alcohol can help you get to sleep, you don't fall into a deep sleep like you should so if you are drinking alcohol just for sleeping purposes, you might want to go to a doctor instead.

Its detox/withdrawals. I assume you get night sweats and whatnot, which keeps you up too? If I have a particularly social couple weeks (like the past 2 weeks) where I'm drinking more often, I sleep like shite the first two nights I don't drink.

This is why I am trying to focus on drinking a lot less often.

Your hypothalamus regulates your body temperature. When you're intoxicated, it is stimulated and doesn't regulate your sleeping/PM temp like it does when you're sober. Well, it gets accustomed to it if you drink multiple days in a row, so when you stop, it still acts as if it is stimulated for a few days until it catches up.

Serious alcoholics go through it for sometimes WEEKS.

Lord delivered me from alcoholism about two years ago now. Struggled with a random beer or two here and there. I used to drink a suitcase Friday nights at home. Don’t drink anything for the past 8-9 months.

This thread seems so familiar yet foreign to me now.

I don’t even think about it.
