If I make my own beer from barley is that considered processed carb?

Yes. Unfortunately the yeast only breaks down glucose and fructose. There are a lot of other carb in beer the yeast leave behind (maltose, galactose, etc.) that add body and flavor. Plus ethanol is assimilated in the liver similar to fructose. (Light beers use a different yeast that break down more sugars than just glucose and fructose.)

I’ve been eating keto for about a year now. This is how I live 24/7. It’s not bad.

But when I eat carbs, I eat a shite ton. Gained 7 lbs in a day and a half.

I gave up on Keto for that very reason. I'd lose weight easily, but man - it's hard to transition & re-introduce carbs without my body going into gimme-dat mode. Portion control / calorie counting & proper exercise works for me.

I do quite frequently. I avoid refined foods and eat meat and non-starchy vegetables for days on end.
It really feels good.

I'm curious at how a french fry is a processed carb...

If its fried in a seed oil then its extremely bad for you.

If its fried in something like beef tallow it still isn't something you should be eating too often but its one of life's great pleasures.

cooked potatoes is an easy starch for our bodies to break down into sugars so IMO you can lump potatoes into the the processed carb category. Just like rice.

It’s a lot easier to eat 300 calories of a little Debbie cake, when compared to 300 calories of rice. And the rice is much more satiating

What is your definition of a processed carb? Wheat that has been ground down?

Yes, pretty much this. It could be any starch ground to a powder then reformed into some other food. Ground corn, rice, potatoes, wheat, etc.

Even powered proteins produce a higher insulin spike than a regular ribeye (whole pieces of meat).

Keto is not healthy. You shouldn't be in ketosis if you're not actively trying to lose weight. It's actually unhealthy.

Same. To each their own. Keto is a great tool in the toolbox to achieve a calorie deficit if it works for you (and it does for many people). I'm not personally interested in it, as I have no problem controlling my portions while enjoying a varied diet that includes carbs.

I think the only time keto annoys me is when people won't acknowledge that they lost weight on keto due to the calorie deficit they were in. Not because avocados have magic powers that make fat fall off of you.

Spinach.
Iceberg lettuce.
Carrots.
Blueberries.
Raspberries.

Many fruits are unprocessed carbs but are cheating like grapes and watermelon.

It is much more healthy to eat 6 whole oranges than 6 squeezed oranges. In fact I would bet you would have trouble eating 6 whole oranges and could easily drink the juice from 6 oranges.

The key is to keep your glucose levels relatively low to prevent inulin spikes. Insulin makes you fat. You can do that in one of two ways, not eat much sugar and carbs or live an active life style (or both).

Serious athletes need carbs. Sedentary day job peps need keto.

Brown rice and potatoes are not processed carbs… they can be found growing in the wild and have nutritional value

I’ve done it and it sucks balls. I just try to limit my carbs as much as I can. 100 grams or so a day if possible.
