Government assistance, social security, tax refunds, etc. Can't all of these be done by direct deposit?
government stopped issuing paper checks in 2011, phased out completely in 2013 for Social Security, Veterans, Federal Pensions and Rail employees

Our adopted daughter gets a monthly stipend check from the state. I just got a refund for repairs I had done to a recalled part.
Sometimes I'd rather just receive a check instead of giving out my banking info to everyone out there.

Don’t you know it’s racist to require someone to have a bank account?
So I’m sure most Government Assistance checks are mailed out.

Businesses still send vendor payments through the mail every week. We receive invoices through the mail, and remit payment through the mail. Usually a big box full of mail from the post office everyday, and we send a large amount out every week as well.

My uncle is this way
And when you tell him the checks he has been writing for years have that exact banking information on them and eveeyone in the world can see them he huffs and puffs.
Just like everyone else ignorant enough to think giving info for direct deposit matters.

Only thing I have ever gotten this way is back pay from when you apply for military disability to when it’s actually approved.

Where did you see that, because SSA says on their site that it's all electronic?
ETA:
Apparently expats still get checks.
