Can someone please tell me what payments still come via check in the regular mail?

Specifically, what recurring payments come via regular mail in the form of a check that cannot be made by direct deposit? I was stuck listening to talk radio at lunch and this is today's hot topic.
Government assistance, social security, tax refunds, etc. Can't all of these be done by direct deposit?
ETA: I'm speaking of regular and recurring monthly payments.

Refunds are issued in form of paper check in many cases.

For whatever reasons there are folks that are "underbanked"

Refunds of any kind, mortgage, lease, rent, etc

Tax refunds? Or do you mean a random refund from goods that were returned?

Yeah, there have been times i would've preferred direct deposit but it's been via mail

Direct deposit is racist by requiring people to have bank accounts. People of color and other historically disenfranchised peoples have always faced banking discrimination and other hurdles to financially normative society.

Saw a stat yesterday that around 500,000 social security recipients still receive a paper check.
Lots of people still opt to receive a paper check from the IRS. No idea on the numbers on that.
Alabama tried to do away with paper checks for tax refunds a few years ago and had to change course because of the public outcry.

99% of government aid checks are direct deposit and have been for several years now/

My family run a service business and receive checks through the mail for payment and we mail checks to suppliers and sub contractors, etc. daily.

Refunds from what? Tax refunds can be direct deposited. Show me a mortgage company these days that doesn't have an online payment option. Leases aren't a payment and rents are what you would pay under a lease, so to the extend you are separating those out as 2 distinct things, they're not. And most landlords provide for online payments or ACH payments, especially in the commercial arena.

If you would get a job instead of living off the taxpayers, you could get a direct deposit.

My SAG/Aftra Residual checks 100% of the time come through the mail

That's what happens when the staffers have been in their positions for +20 yrs, they resist change and act like asses when you try to progress and evolve to a more efficient system.
