There was a thread on the Money Talk Board about a guy whose wife started being active on social media and is apparently killing it with brand deals and stuff. IIRC she is a housewife that appeals to other housewives. Anyone that has an interest in what you are doing is part of your audience that brands will want to market to.

I like woodworking and follow a lot of woodworking people who do social media as their full-time gig. Doubt many of them are liberal.

My wife does this. She is so successful that I quit my career to help her. It is a great time to be one.

She does not advertise any products she does not like or would not buy. We own a lot of the products she advertises. You build trust with your followers by doing this. She is basically a free personal shopper for her followers, an inspiration, and in many cases a free interior/exterior decorator.

Many people today are so busy with work, kids, etc. they do not have time to shop, so they turn to the influencer for a quick and easy solution that is valuable to them.

The big companies have caught on and see influencers as cheap advertising for them compared to traditional advertising, leading to larger profits.

For anyone thinking being one is a cinch and easy money, my wife works her arse off. She works every day, and puts some time in during vacations. There are days when she is in tears from the stress. We are hiring our first employee July 1st, and if all goes well we will hire more employees to take the load off of us so we can get a better work/life balance.

I love threads where a bunch of 50 year old, overweight baws get together to bitch about things they don’t understand and wallow in their ignorance of cultural attributes.

I like how obtuse some of you are to think this is all it appeals to or is for as if you people haven't been marketed to your whole life. Things are just shifting as audiences are able to be narrowed down.

Like I said if you like guns you probably follow someone like Demolition Ranch. His sponsors know that statistically, his viewers will be more likely to buy their product than someone watching CNN or some random bimbo on Youtube so they pour their dollars there and reward the influencer for access to his audience.

Age, looks, political affiliation, etc doesn't matter. Anyone can draw an audience. Look at Alex Jones for example. Like it or not, he was one of the OG internet "influencers" and built a whole brand off of it.

So today's youth need their influencer's approval to make a purchase? What in the world has this world come too.

People in the 50's lost their minds to go and buy something shown on TV. Welcome to Advertising.

Somebody on social media that thinks a lot of themselves! They think they are important and they can influence people to act or react according to their video ideas.

An influencer is someone who has a very large social media following and hawks products and/or opinions in which they are paid to do so.

Meanwhile, the public not knowing any better thinks they are getting some grass roots, original information.

This doesn't' necessarily have to be a bad thing. Some of the bushcrafting guys I follow on youtube have hawked some of the gear they use as it was donated to them, and it turned out to be damn good gear. And it gets the name out there for some of the smaller companies. Most of the gear I have for camping/hiking/bushcrafting (that I didn't already have from my active duty Army time) is stuff I've watched the guys I follow use on multi-day trips. I got to see the gear used in real-world situations instead of just a marketing commercial.

Just had a conversation about these youths making big money on youtube and instagram while watching the Mayweather/Paul fight sunday night.

The vast majority of them don’t make much money. YouTube in particular has some issues with what videos people can make money off of. It’s only like the ones with tons of followers but even that cash flow will likely dry up as soon as someone else similar but newer comes along.
