It’s a stupid term used for people with their own extremely large audience.
For example - earlier today CNN uploaded a video around the same time as a fairly popular youtuber.
The youtuber had 700,000 views in 15 hours compared to cnn at around 144k in 11 hours.
The youtuber could be considered an influencer, as stupid as that sounds.

You don't have to be woke to be an influencer or know what an influencer is.
It's basically a person with a large following on the internet.

It has nothing specifically to do with being woke. Influencers run the complete gamut of socio-political beliefs and it often has nothing to do with their influence.
Influencers are people how have developed an audience and can "influence" their buying decisions.
It could be someone like a Kardashian "advertising" jewelry, bags, makeup, or alcohol to a guy with a few thousand subs on YT reviewing a new niche woodworking tool. Normally the audience is built on their own dime then as it grows they begin to be gifted products for review/endorsement and if they are big enough in a lucrative sector they may get paid for reviews or product placement/endorsement.

So today's youth need their influencer's approval to make a purchase? What in the world has this world come too.

That made me laugh. It is nothing new, celebrity endorsement has been used in advertising for longer than most of us have been alive. Also, the vast majority of influencers are "hobbyists" of some sort who have built a reputation for delivering honest opinions about products. They make it clear the relationship with the company.

Know how there are things like JD Power & Associates, Conde Nast Traveler, maybe even Popular Mechanics or Consumer Reports?
Social Media influencers are similar. For whatever reason other turn to them for the influencers opinions or feedback. Some influencers are more educated on a topic, some just have big tits or quirky attitude.
The shamwow guy was the TV equivalent of a social media influencer. Hired spokesman/woman.

People that get paid to promote things based on follower count and corporate viability. Woke? Young? Hot? Stupid?
Here's 30k(of tax dollars) to make a cute video of you getting the shot.

I do understand this now but I guess I was taken back by the word. Just had a conversation about these youths making big money on youtube and instagram while watching the Mayweather/Paul fight sunday night. No I didn't pay for the fight either

quote:Thats marketing/advertising 101. Lets take John Doe, your next door neighbor, who works from home and doesnt go out. Goldbond wouldnt want to hire him to advocate their product on a commercial. Now Shaquille O’Neal is loved by 99.9% of people and he really catches everyones eyes on TV. Goldbond has paid him millions to be in their commercials.

The teenage 13 year old all the way to lets say 25 years old is a huge chunk of the population. A good % of those kids follow these influencers that do influence the market for certain products/markets that generally get sold to that group of younger people. My wording is garbage, but you get the point.

The strangest thing is when they all do a 'dance' on TikTok or IG and then others copy it to see who will go viral.

Someone who thinks they are important for their opinions, but really people just like their photos but don't give a shite about their opinion.

Influencers are the kids that all the other kids are watching on the internet.

It’s someone on social media that has a huge following. They get paid or given free stuff to talk up said products from a company and get their sheeple to buy said products.
