It’s sports related. But some people try to make it more than that.

The reality is, Texas people can be arrogant pricks that think their shite don’t stink and they tend to look down on Okies. Same exact way they look down on Louisiana folk.

There’s so much mingling going on between the two states whether it’s socially or economically that it naturally causes rifts.

In a nutshell, it probably boils down to Okies not thinking Texas is Gods gift to earth the way Texans are brainwashed to believe and Texans getting mad at said Okies. Oh then the Sooners kick all of their teams asses most of the time.

When Texas and Oklahoma went to 'war' over a bridge across the Red River
Historians call it a war as tempers flared between two rival states, though no shots were fired.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Red River separates Texas from Oklahoma, and these days, when we talk about a battle between the two states, we’re usually referring to the annual college football rivalry between the University of Texas and the University of Oklahoma.

But it was along the river 90 years ago this week – July 1931 – that armed federal troops and the Texas Rangers went head-to-head in a standoff over the closing of a highway bridge.

Here’s how it happened.

Both states had worked together to build a highway bridge across the Red River to link Denison, Texas, and Durant, Oklahoma. People could drive across it for free.

But that upset a man who owned a toll bridge nearby. Texas agreed to buy his toll bridge and shut it down, but failed to pay up.

When the toll bridge owner sued the state for non-payment, then-Texas Gov. Ross Sterling was ordered by a federal judge to barricade the free bridge until the lawsuit could be resolved.

But those roadblocks riled up Oklahoma Gov. William “Alfalfa Bill” Murray, who ordered the bridge to be re-opened and sent troops to back him up. As a response, Gov. Sterling sent the Texas Rangers.

What followed was a standoff that lasted several weeks.

The matter was eventually resolved, peacefully, when Texas finally paid off the toll bridge operator and the free bridge was reopened. It remained in use until 1995 when it was removed and a new bridge replaced it.

By the way, a large section of the old bridge wound up in a field in Colbert, Oklahoma. These sections are the last remnants of the 1931 “war” between Texas and Oklahoma.

For those who don't remember this gripping account, Beckett was charged in 2007 after a bar fight in which he is alleged to have torn a man's scrotum by latching onto it during the brawl.

According to the AP, Texas fan Brian Christopher Thomas, 36, walked into a Henry Hudsons Pub wearing a Texas Longhorns T-shirt, eliciting football "trash talk" from Beckett.

Thomas' original account stated that he decided to leave and went to pay his bar tab.

However, according to the AP, Thomas said Beckett set upon him with would-be holding, grasping his testicles so hard that he ripped the man's scrotum.

"He could see both of his testicles hanging on the outside of his body," said Thomas' attorney, Carl Hughes. "He was wearing a pair of white shorts, which made it that much worse."

I hear it's because some livestock has softer buttholes than others.

It's a nature vs. Nurture thing.

I understand Austin is a cesspool, but my late late mom raised me a Texas fan.

It's always a We problem in my opinion.

If you can't enjoy Austin as a visitor, that's a personal fail. Austin is great. Same can be said of Boston, Miami, NYC or Chicago. Also true for Vegas, Seattle, Dallas and Atlanta.

You must not be familiar with fishing in Oklahoma. It’s elite. Grand Lake, Eufala, Beavers Bend

Also hunting in Oklahoma is better than high fence zoo hunting that is popular in Tx. Broken Bow has been completely ruined by Texas investors mainly from Dallas.

I really think if LSU and OU become permanent opponents, one thing we will connect on his mocking Texans

Also, Lake Texoma right by me (most of the lake is in Oklahoma) is the best freshwater striped bass fishery in the country. And when you're catching those suckered on topwater, they're a lot more fun to catch than largemouth.

The lake hasn't been stocked with stripers since the 60s and there are so many of them that you can keep 10 per day per fisherman (only two at 20" or over).

Oklahoma crappie limits are 37 per day. Isn't texas 25 or some shite?

Texas is the reason that Lake Texoma put a bag limit on white bass. Sandies in Oklahoma have no limit but Texas has a limit of 25 and Texas cried so much about it that Oklahoma said frick it, Lake Texoma will be 25.

And Texas has a stupid arse maximum 7' cast net size. Oklahoma doesn't. Only mesh size regulations. It's fricking stupid. No guide worth a salt throws a 6 or 7 foot net. Hell, I can throw a 10' net and you need to be able to throw a 10' taped net when the shad are deep.

But the boisterous Texans don't have a clue.

Also, if I wanted to catch largemouth, I wouldn't go to Texoma. I can catch nice largemouth on Grand, Tenkiller and Sardis just as easily as Rayburn or Fork. Heck, close to me is McGee Creek and I'd contend it's one of the most underrated largemouth waters in the country.

I've fished Fork, Rayburn, Tawakoni, Eagle Mountain, Ray Bob and others. Give me an Oklahoma lake with Oklahoma baws over a Texas lake filled with Texas guys that just want to fish tournaments.

Bois D'Arc lake is being built right across from me in Texas. I'll fish it when it fills up, but I know the shitshow it's going to be with all of the Texas weekend warriors.

I fish every single day year round except for when I'm out of town or the wind is gusting above 20 mph. I'd be on the water right now if my boat wasn't getting a jack plate replaced under warranty. And give me Oklahoma waters with Oklahoma Game Wardens. The Texas Game Wardens are much bigger pricks.

Outside of sports...

Texas residents - especially the ones born there - spend far too much time thinking about themselves to have any time to care about Oklahoma people.

Oklahoma residents see that obnoxiousness from TX and can't stand it.

Nice reply.

And I do get envious of this. The tax revenue that state gets is insane. They will undertake massive infrastructure projects and get them done in no time whereas it takes Oklahoma 27 years to resurface 80 miles of I35.

Preach. 20 years ago that place was a hidden gem. Head up there on some random Tuesday and you would have almost the whole river to yourself. Fly fishermen’s dream.

Headed back to the Little Missouri next month for the first time in years. Hopefully it hasn’t been broken bowed.
