If 1970s/80s New York City can be saved, anywhere can be saved. It just takes the right people hurting enough to make the right decisions.

Until leadership gets raw about the truth and actually point out the real issues, violent crimes are gonna keep happening.

If it were white dudes doing it, i would gladly say that. But the truth is, it’s not.

Almost every single violent crime this year in BR has been at the hands of black dudes. That has to be understood

Doubtful. It would require a lot of gentrification which would require a desirable city for young professionals to live in. More likely it will continue to slide.

I don't like the word gentrification.I realize it is a correct word, but insofar as it has been used pejoratively to partly mean affluent replacing poor it just don't care for. For instance, if Tigerland were to be razed and rebuilt into something highly demanded by LSU students is that truly gentrification or is it restoring order that should have never been lost in the first place? Seas of Section 8 should not be surrounding campus. I recently drove on Rittner in the GD. Couldn't believe that there is culture back there now. When I was a student, that area was predominately rented by upper class and grad students with more a bit of bohemian spirit. The change going on now is disturbing and certainly will not help the Garden District overall - sure there was always hood to the east and north, but hood encroaching in the GD proper is a problem. Perhaps I am overstating as I only saw a couple of rentals on Rittner like this, but it can and will spread.

It's only a matter of time before enrollment at LSU starts to decline as more and more parents, even local ones, decide to send their children elsewhere over concerns for their safety.

We were talking about that in another thread a few days ago. Don’t know how bad it would hurt LSU but could def see Tech poaching some students because of safety concerns.

I’ll say this in regards to crime.

21st century policing is not capable of fixing the violent crime problem.

You have to be willing to ruffle a few feathers along the way to get crime back under control and there isn’t a single person in a position of authority in the city-parish government willing to do that

So the answer is no

My sister and BIL sent my niece to Ole Miss this year because they didn’t want her living in BR. Both LSU graduates and die hard LSU fans but in the end they did what was best for her.

The difference between Jackson and BR is the folks with money who control BR politcs are overwhelmingly white and aren't going anywhere. Once they decide it's time for Broome, or Murphy Paul, to go, they're as good as gone.

You say this often. Why wouldn't the 'power brokers' want her gone now?

The optimist in me wants to believe this, but NYC has so much more going on to bring in young professionals and gentrification than Baton Rouge will ever have. Who wants to move to Baton Rouge? You can only hope to create a city where fewer people leave, but the ghetto will outbreed them exponentially.

This goes for Louisiana as a whole.

If BR had 3 Fortune 500 companies HQ'd here I'd give it a chance but even our homegrown businesses leave when they want to expand. Unless you have a job tied to the plants, heavy industry or government almost every other state has more opportunity.

Yes, but New Orleans still attracts a lot of young professionals because it's New Orleans and has a mystique appeal like New York does. Baton Rouge doesn't have that.

Anyone with half a brain understands it. Point it out, much less try and address it and the Left and their lapdogs in the media will call you David Duke and threaten your rasciss arse.

And people think making St. George will fix it, as if the criminals will suddenly be blocked off by a magic forcefield.

My father in law’s best friend was murdered here in the early 80’s near duvic’s. Trying to stop someone from being mugged. Pretty sure the guy is now out and he is still in the ground!! Same town different thug!!

Boulevard De Province is an absolute shithole. Those people just sit around all day. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to live like that.

Unless you live in a walled off gated community with a security guard there's nothing stopping thugs from coming into your neighborhood. And mid city is just as close to the hood as I am.

St. George would help, not by some magic forcefield, but by keeping muddle/upper class voters in the Parish.
