Just make sure you don’t use your furnace during the winter..![]()
I know this is a joke about propane, but for the record, new R-32 and R-454B systems will have a safety mechanism to prevent the furnace from firing if there is a refrigerant leak, and retrofitted systems keeping the old furnace will be fitted with a kit that does the same.

My AC guy is worried that the spare parts for current units are going to be harder to find within the next couple of years.
Like what kind of parts?

Vote Trump and get this reversed.

R-12 has been banned since the 90s. Freon is a brand name of refrigerants. Its still sold.
Correct. R-12 is the "refrigerant" that was phased out in the early 90's and replaced in autos with R-134a.
For some reason, 99.978957% of the population refer to R-12 as "freon".... which was the tradename for the R-12 produced and sold by Dupont.

Last heard you can’t retro your old equipment to the new refrigerant because on the flame rating. The old equipment was never tested with flammable refrigerant and does not have a UL (underwriters lavatory) rating to do so.
So you would need to replace outdoor condensing unit and replace indoor evaporator coil. Then flush the refrigerant lines.

I read it isn’t as cool as the Freon. And I’d rather not have coolant that can explode in my home. Sounds dangerous. Mechanisms can fail.

He has a history of reducing regulations to help the middle class.

It’s the manufactures who pushed it. Nobody is stepping in to stop it.

Simple explanation it’s stupid. They are basing it on Global Warming Potential. 410A has a higher GWP that the new refrigerant. In the last 2-3 years the government has screwed the HVAC industry due to new efficiency standards and now new refrigerants. The newer refrigerant in self contained commercial refrigeration is R290 which is refrigerant grade propane. It replaced R134A and 404A. Now mind you that neither one of those has any chlorine in them which is what destroyed the ozone layer. The readily available parts I can see because for efficiency standards most motors have ecm modules on them to ramp them up and down and they are expensive as hell to replace. Commercial HVAC units now come with Variable Frequency Drives that ramp the 3 phase motors up and down and they go bad all the time and the shortage on those have been ridiculous. Ask any Carrier rep how many are back ordered with 2-3 month lead times. Sorry rant over. Been in the industry since my junior year of high school so well over 30 years now, my gosh I’m getting old.

Just the UN making our laws for us, that's all. EPA is following international lead on killing off one refrigerant after another.
Can a trump admin just take us back to the cheap stuff? Where is the chevron ruling on this?

My current units are working perfectly fine and are around 10 years old. Based on the opinions of this board, it doesn’t sound like we are going to do anything right now.

They teamed up with regulators to squeeze the American people.
This is how corrupt government and industry work against the people.

That’s another element to this…. What if Trump does win the election and eliminates these regulations?

Then the ozone layer will disappear and you will have to wear sunscreen on Christmas. The seas will rise and New Orleans will flood and Alexandria will become ocean front property. Shreveport will become the new home of Mardi Gras, and crawfish prices will keep rising.
If anyone could not tell my post is sarcasm.

If they are working here is my best advice. Change your filter regularly, keep the coils clean, electrical connections tight, and drain line clear. Basic preventative maintenance and your equipment will last. If you have bad weather and power dips make sure your units are off on the thermostat until power issues are resolved. Also make sure you don’t have any ant beds near your outside unit, the magnetism of the compressor contactor gives off a sweet smell that their noses can pick up and attracts them to it and over time can get in the contactor and cause issues because it’s not feeding proper voltage to the compressor.

Reversing this regulation would hurt the middle class not help the middle class. The big OEMs are already geared up for the change, manufacturing the new products and distributors are stocking up. OEMs aren't going back to R410a at this point regardless of if Trump reversed the rules (he won't.) OEMs won't build multiple versions of the same product. What's the advantage for them? They only have so many production lines and people. So, it's on to A2L we go.
