You shouldn't push your way into people's business and you should respect people's privacy but you don't need to be a stranger to the people you work with. Having a rapport with your coworkers goes a long way towards making work more pleasant, efficient, and easier. I take pride in developing relationships with my coworkers. I have gone out of my way to even help when in they are in need. Don't see why things would need to be completely impersonal.

Not a big deal. Insecurities will allow one to imagine threats to one's self worth when they aren't there. Please don't take this as more ridicule but you'll grow out of it. You're already bigger than that.
