I try to call everyone by their name in the office, but when dealing with the field crews and contractors everyone just becomes either buddy or man if I don't interact with them regularly

"Sweetie," "Honey" and "Love" etc. are even more offensive. I'm not your freaking granddaughter. I will call someone out on that sh*t.

Some girl that I'm pretty sure was around my age called me this. It was one of the weirdest things I witnessed.

My dad does this in the third person routinely but I don't think he does it personally. Like he'll say 'I'm going to D.C. with a new kid from the office", kid is like 35 and my dads not even 60 yet.

But as said, it's no more right for an old person to call you kid as it is for a young person to call them pops or gramps or something.

I used to have a mid-sixties male boss who was very flirtatious with all the ladies in the office. I wish I would have campaigned for us all to call him Gramps. Knock that horny ego of his down a few notches

Maybe she's hoping you'll start addressing her as "adulto."

Wouldn't have gone to grad school if I wanted to be someone's "secretary." please. I have my own assistant, thanks.

I just ask those oldies if they are ready to be replaced the next go around. They shelf life is almost up.

Just start treating them like they are about to die. Ask if theyve made arrangements or anything. When they say they are a long ways from death, say that they are closer to death than anything else.

It isn't a big deal, unless it is purposely said in a condescending tone.
