For weeks in the optimal time of year? wow, and you still are not running HVAC nor charging an EV regularly on that setup.
False. I can DC charge an EV, run HVAC in both houses all year, zero issues. Try again. It was built and spec'd using CPR TWY2.0 weather data then given a significant margin to cover variance.
quote:For systems that are designed right on the edge, correct. But many are built differently. I know this for a fact because I get to review production data from hundreds of thousands of systems.
You can get by IF you are willing to forego modern conveniences AND have a tie in for backup, that is the dirty little untold lie about solar.
quote:No, because I had my system built properly because the grid goes down frequently at the ranch.
It is a great supplement but you sound like Germany, bragging to the world about your green independence till the hydrocarbons get cut off and the truth all comes out.

A few hours while you are at home working in the heat. Sounds like fun.
You snowflakes would never make it anywhere else.

No, Scruffy, they’re all in on this war… well they’re not paying for it, we are, but they’re the ones who will be paying the full ramifications for it. But according to the thread, they’re just as bloodthirsty to LARP as they are.

I'm sure the fruitbois in ca will love the sweaty balls and anuses.

They are also urged not charge their electric vehicles. How will the earth be saved from climate change without those electric vehicles? No freedom to move about freely- a governmental lockdown.
How do they expect things to work if they get their way and get rid of fossil fuels with cars and power generation? Grid can’t handle it now, how will it handle bigger loads with all the electric cars and less power generated by only green energy?

Yes it is because Texas has had these exact same warnings multiple times in past 2 years. So why is this board acting like this request from the grid operator is such an impingement on freedom
Texas had the 21 Ice storm and one warning this year during the heat that resulted in no outages.
California has these warnings multiple times a year, every year.
I’m not saying Texas is awesome with power and California sucks. 21 was a black eye for Texas.
But California has water and electricity conservation alarms regularly while continuing to ramp up their need (all cars need to be electric) while stymieing their production.
It’s not political. It’s just factual.

I think the point is this potential hardship is completely and relatively easily avoidable. The power can be generated, they are just deliberately handicapping it

Lol love all the downvotes guys, keep them coming.
And keep deluding yourselves into thinking that freedom means forever latching onto the teat of O&G where whatever dummy occupies the white house and the fricks in the middle east and the fricks in russia and everywhere else can all have a huge impact on how much it costs *you* to live your life.
And continue shunning the technology that offers true individual freedom, where *you* can own all the equipment necessary to supply your own home and your own vehicle with the power you need without having to pay someone for fuel day after day.

It's wonderful that you are able to be self sustained. I wish I could get my house on a setup like that.
However, how do you get your setup to scale up and account for every citizen in California when everything will run off of green energy?
Who is going to finance, build to, and retrofit the grid to support the demand? Once it is built, how will people afford it?

You might be able to, just have to get a reputable local company to come do an irradiance work up and see what the ROI is. Make sure they use Aurora or something other than Google. With the ITC being extended at a full 30%, it just got easier to money out.

quote:Where there's need the money and resources will always follow. Many of the skills needed to do anything of this already exist in the market place. Personally I think we just need more energy period (Nuke, Wind, Solar, etc.) Solar is a good candidate for distribution because we have a ton of useless roof space that we can strap some generation to and supply at the point of demand to help stabilize the grid. Keep in mind, I'm talking about supporting the grid, not replacing it with on site generation.

I get it, but those in power want to replace and not augment.

Arnold Schwarzenegger did the same thing way back when he was governor. He had a public press release and made a public plea for everyone to set the thermostat to 78° and close your windows and shades. He had some other suggestions, too.
This sort of thing isn't new or uncommon out there.

Its been going on for as long as I can remember. Gets hot in Cali, they have grid issues. Same as it ever was.
Extreme temps in high population states will stress the grid. And people too caught up in political identity will make it into the other sides fault.

i get what you're saying. and personally would love the ability to be truly cut off from any grid or better yet, not reliant on one. and i'm genuinely interested in just seeing the technology grow and advance, but i don't think this is a realistic option for many Americans at this time.

Well, actually only one side is trying to mandate peoples' personal energy usage, so....

The grid operator is telling you there is a problem but ppl with this mentality arent smart enough or are psychopaths and won't make small adjustments.
I think the point you keep missing is that the state themselves 1) created the problem in the first place, and 2) continues to exacerbate it with their policy decisions. And then they keep asking more and more of the people who live there in terms of dealing with their stupidity.
