A man in Norway awoke early Thursday to discover a huge container ship had run aground a stone's throw from his fjord-side house — and he had slept through the commotion.

For an as-yet unknown reason, the 443-foot NCL Salten sailed up onto shore just meters from Johan Helberg's house in a fjord near Trondheim in central Norway.

Helberg only discovered the unexpected visitor when a panicked neighbor who had repeatedly rung his doorbell to no avail gave up and called him on the phone.

"The doorbell rang at a time of day when I don't like to open," Helberg told television channel TV2.

Really nice location for a cabin.

How drunk do you have to be to not wake up when that happens?

About as drunk as you have to be to run aground on a body of water that size.

Neighbor should have done this to the ship captain. That would have got him up.

About Trondheim Fjord and Harbor: Really deep water all the way east to the city of Trondheim. Trondheim was the northern U-boat home of the German Navy in WWII and their ships could go at depth all the way to the city where their home base was a huge concrete building.
More recently the city wanted to blow it up because it was a somewhat unpleasant reminder of WWII, but most of the buildings are wooden (including the King's northern palace there) and to blow the pen would flatten most of the city AND the palace. So they turned it into a health and exercise center.
