One of the best parts about making the long haul from Louisiana to Texas is crossing the state border and reading the sign that states El Paso:857 miles. This was strategically placed by the state to let visitors know how vast our beautiful state is, and to me a sign of the open road and adventure out west. Traveling along i10 west can be a boring site for some to see but to me the beauty is endless. I once rolled through the deserts of west Texas in the early morning hours and saw it covered in snow. Unfortunately I do not have a picture of it but it lives in my memory forever.

Another great pastime of road trips out west is stopping at Buc-ee’s. I remember when they only had them west of Houston and I hardly ever got to go. It was once a “kid in the candy store” adventure that enthralled all of those local Texans who got to venture out west or travel to central Texas to float the cold Comal River on a hot summer day. With them popping up in nearly every corner of Texas, this mentality has somewhat changed for people local to the area. Those traveling rarely through the state may still experience this phenomenon. With that being said, I will present to you my top five favorite snacks from the Disney world of Texas: Buc-ee’s.

#5: bacon egg and cheese sandwich

A classic go to when you’re in a rush on the road and need a quick filling breakfast. This might be my all time favorite breakfast meal but I will place it at 5 because of the plethora of choices ahead.

#4: jalepeno sausage kolache

A staple to any Texans diet, this serves as a local breakfast tradition that runs deep in the blood of any Texan.

#3: chopped brisket sandwich

Growing up this was all I ever got going to bbq restaurants. When I learned they served it at a local gas station and it was just as tatsty hot and ready it was a game changer.

#2 sausage on a stick wrapped in flour tortilla

Can’t go wrong with this choice. A good meal, reminds me of the rodeo and the fair food that is an exciting season and brings the community together as we celebrate the changing of seasons and a concert every single day for a month.

#1 breakfast tacos

The undisputed champion of breakfast. This is truly a Texas way of life. I remember stopping before high school back in the day and getting these. When I moved to Louisiana I was shocked that breakfast tacos were not common amongst the Cajuns.

Their tacos and burritos are legit, and no mention of any jerky products. Not a legit list.

Why isn't there a Bucees in El Paso. That thing would print money being the only one in that half of the state.

For a pantry type item that's not made to order you can't go wrong with beaver nuggets

They usually have a good assortment of sweets and baked goods if you have a sweet tooth as well

Buc-ee's locations are now under construction in Georgia and South Carolina.

Soon, the mark of a true SEC state will be the presence of a Buc-ee's.

So then what does that make Louisiana, since they've completely skipped it?
