BRPD: Man wanted for towing vehicles, selling them to scrapyards, using fake papers

According to an arrest warrant, a man called police when his truck went missing while it was parked along Keokuk Street in June.
While investigating, an officer searched records at a local scrapyard and found that Matthew Dunn, 35, took the truck there and sold it, the warrant says.
Dunn allegedly provided a bill of sale that fraudulently listed "Kevin King," who police do not believe is a real person, as the seller and himself as the buyer.
According to arrest records, Dunn allegedly pulled similar schemes on four other occasions, starting in May.
Documents show Dunn has spent years legally scrapping vehicles for a living, and even "[demonstrated] his familiarity with the process of transferring vehicles to scrap yards and completing the required ownership documentation."
According to court records, Dunn faces four counts each of theft of a motor vehicle, filing false public records and forgery, as well as one count of simple burglary.

Had basically this happen to me. Lived in a decent apartment complex. One morning my truck was missing. Called the police. They accused me of making it up. No record from the complex of requesting a tow or anything. Filed a report. Two weeks later the police call me saying they found it in a tow yard. They want 2500 to get it back even though they had no right to tow it. Police do nothing.
I fricking hate towing companies.

Crazy story. It’s apparently pretty easy to forge some papers and go pick up random cars to scrap.

He was arrested on 7/20 for vehicle theft, $15,000 bail set and was released on 7/25.

I had a similar situation a couple weeks ago, apparently all they need for proof of ownership is an insurance card, which is easily faked.

Just out of the army and looking for a job in the 60s, a guy I knew got me a job as an "assistant manager" (aka chaser) in Lake Providence, LA. I'd never been there.
It seems the manager and the husband of the receptionist were accused of repossessing cars, writing them off as junk, then selling them to a junkyard. Somehow or the other the cars were put on a used car lot and sold again.
I had been asking questions about how all that worked and within a week, I was served notice that I was being transferred to Venice, LA, another place I had never been.
My only option was to go or resign, so I chose the latter. Lake Providence was a miserable place populated by farm day labor and single mamas with lots of kids, all on welfare. I hated it anyway.
After I resigned and moved on, I found out that the shurf came looking for everyone working there and I figure the reason I was getting transferred was because they were trying to cover stuff up and I would not lie to him.
Probably they all got fired.
