Does BR have the begging rings like New Orleans? The ones with pimps who drop them off, pick them up, and rotate them between spots?

I approached beggars like a wild animal. If I harassed them enough, they'd move off to less hostile ground. I drove them as hard as I could. I couldn't stop it but it greatly reduced the impact. 2 guys in particular, I watched them both go from relative decent health to just turn to skin an bones because I drove them so hard. I wouldn't even let them get near their turf, which was tiger town. I warned kids about these guys every chance I got. Needless to say mother nature solved the problem for me.

I wish all officers would make their lives a living hell to where they just go take a high dive off the MS River Bridge

First off you can't stop them from begging for money unless they do it at the insterstate ramps or block traffic.

The only solution for beggars is harrassment. People also need to go after the church groups who feed and support these guys. They feed these guys downtown by the fountains all the time. Just like a stray dog, he's not gonna leave an area where he's getting food. Lastly some of you on this board are the problem. You give them money so they can keep buying booze and dope. I would safely estimate that 95% of these guys are substance abusers. Stop giving them money.

We the police, are extremely limited on what we can do. The old school ways of dealing with them can't be done anymore. You can thank body cameras, in car cameras and GPS for that. Its not illegal to ask someone for money. Its also not illegal for them to walk down a sidewalk. A private business can forbid them for being on their property but they rarely do. So in short if they don't have food or money, they will go some place else.

I was like wtf is he talking about after the first paragraph.

Then later saw it was the police's perspective. First time I've seen that on this board and it's interesting.

Yesterday I saw the dude who hits up the traffic light when you exit from the Target shopping center. He isn't there all the time, but he has been hitting that spot for years.. He is kind of off to the side and you can't see him if you are passing on Siegen, but yesterday, I saw several people give him money while they were waiting for the light to turn green.

Nothing looks wrong with him so I don't understand why people give him money. If he can stand out there and beg for change, he could at least get a job at Target collecting the baskets out of the parking lot. That shite pisses me off.

The more you pay them the more likely they are going to comeback along with their friends.

I would wager that most of the beggars you see from ONeal to College Dr are not legit homeless people. They may be drug addicts in these rings like you say for sure, but not legit bums. It amazes me the amount of people giving them money though. They get more brazen as time goes on which is why I yell at them when they approach me outside of a car. I always have a kid with me too, which pisses me off royally. I am already at a disadvantage having a young child with me that I have to strap into a car seat. I will go off on anyone who stalks me with a passion. I have done this ever since I was approached a Trader Joe's one time and saw how effective it was. Don't let them even start their BS. Shut it down.

Exiting Seigan at I10 going east I've been seeing the same old man there. Ole baw is in overalls and work boots. Its strange because he does not look like he's in bad shape. Looks like he could almost be anybody's Grandbaw.

i drove down college to corporate going to town center yesterday afternoon.

I did not see 1 beggar --- very surprised by this

it was around 130pm so maybe it was too hot to be on the corner begging?

Beggars at the interstate off ramps don’t bother me too much because I can ignore them (Would be nice for them to go away, though).

What bothers me is walking around downtown and getting harassed. It’s really uncomfortable and can’t be good for business. Seems like BRPD could do something about that. Granted, I’ve never been to a big city with a walking district that DIDN’T have this problem.

I hate getting off I10 at College lately because there's always a begger. I saw one there at 1AM recently holding a sign. That light takes forever to get a left turn arrow so its even worse.

This just doesn't bother me much. Sure, I'd rather them not be there, but I don't feel unsafe or uncomfortable sitting there with my windows up and a beggar outside.

FWIW, often times companies donate defective or outdated merchandise to homeless shelters and charities. Would explain that.

I had this discussion when I was drunk in downtown Nashville with a homeless guy in a North Face rain coat that I would've worn. Said it was donated by some clothing store in the city because it had a bad tear on the inside, which he showed me.
