I call this “polite mugging” as they often approach you and make you feel so uncomfortable that you essentially are paying them to go away.

I used to politely tell them no. Now I’m just the biggest a-hole possible to them. I hope I make them feel like shite.

Maybe I am just an a-hole, but I just start waving back at them. Never give them a dollar or even lower the window....just wave.

Begging truly has become an industry here. It’s entirely out of hand, but I don’t have any faith in these people at all to do what’s best for the city. They are unplugged, same as it ever was. The only change I’m convinced I’ll see is when I get the frick out of this place and to a much better city and region, one that actually gives two shits about itself.

When I am in a parking lot and they approach me I simply start yelling for them to get the frick away from me now. Never had a problem after that.

its to ensure they don’t get arrested. Too much of a hassle to deal with the bum and getting animal control and all that out to deal with th the dog.

It's a free speech issue. You can't outlaw begging

quote:

§97.1. Solicitation on an interstate highway A. Solicitation on an interstate highway is the intentional act of soliciting, begging, panhandling or otherwise requesting anything of value on any interstate highway, or on any entrance or exit ramp of an interstate highway.

B. Whoever commits the crime of solicitation on an interstate highway shall be fined not more than two hundred dollars, or imprisoned for not more than six months, or both.

It actually is illegal to beg for money on a public highway, which the LASC has upheld as constitutional due to safety concerns of the defendants and motorists. It just doesn’t extend to private property.

Would throwing a can of creamed corn at them be considered “donating to a food bank”?

I’d pay for a dedicated BRPD Bum Abatement Task Force.

we've had an influx of some that don't even look remotely homeless. Some just look like they're in their mid 20s, clean shaven, and wearing regular clothes. Throwing a little dirt on your face at least if you want my spare change guy.

This. If you tell them not to come near you then only someone who intends you harm will continue you approaching.

Anything other than money pisses them off. They ONLY want cash, nothing else. Most of them now are professionals. A small few will accept booze or cigs in lieu of money

If you want to see aggressive bums, go to downtown Houston. They are much worse than LA bums
