I don't think that's the one that's closed, is it. When I got to Lee/Brightside and 30 the other day, it looked like you could get to Ben Hur, which is beyond that. I thought the bridged that was closed is the one by the Fire School?

Its the one you cross just before hitting the Lee/Nicholson intersection (if approaching from Gardere). It's directly in front of the (now torn down) church and sec8 appartments

You can turn on Ben Hur, the bridge is 1/4mi further down HWY30

You could get there the other day. You couldn't yesterday.

If it's anything like DOTD projects around here the bridge will be closed for at least 2 years before they even start to work on the project.

They had a crane on there yesterday. Couldn't see what they were doing though.

Makes sense. I have avoided the whole area since Monday afternoon.

I don't think the UClub crowd will let them drag on much with this project.

Think LSU football
Think rush hour and people trying to get to Brightside Lane
Think those big tanker trucks you see regularly rolling down Nicholson Drive
Think about the people living in all those new apartments on Ben Hur, and Burbank with all the Nicholson traffic coming into their neighborhoods.
Think about the extra traffic on Gardere too.
And yes there's U-Club, Lexington and St. Gabriel, and Gonzales traffic too.

I believe you. The article itself says 500 feet from the intersection, which would put it there and not where I thought.

News says early 2018. Gosh, I'm so glad I just finished this past semester... Driving to class and traffic during LSU games is gonna be a nightmare now.

We're fortunate its not a key state highway, or this would be a major issue.

Oh wait.

And the Claycut bridge.

They're almost done...

In what world are they almost done? I passed by today and all they have in are pilings. No decking. Claycut was closed for a year about two years ago as well, while the did sewer remediation work. Couldn't they have done everything at once? No I guess that would have been to much to ask.

We won WWII in less time than it's taking them to finish that thing.

I know the funding there for the nicholson/lee intersection work and the construction is about to start, but wasn't the funding for the nicholson lane expansion Lee to walk ons and lee to gardere/burbank) included in the green light 2 tax plan and with the tax being voted down, those projects will now be on hold?

No
That project is also in GL one.

Both are vital projects and necessary.

Claycut Bridge

Why do people keep talking about this in here as if it is even remotely relevant?

I think you are interpreting it wrong. Bridge is slated to be replaced in early 2018. I would be shocked if emergency repairs take past the start of school and into football season. A poster above listed several good reasons why this route will be a priority.

It's a running joke. Bridge repairs like the ones at Claycut, White Oak Landing (Jones Creek) and Carlotta seem to take forever.

But they are all City-Parish projects.

The Nicholson(Arlington Creek Bridge) is a state repair, so its really not the same thing.

The City-Parish is only in the conversation because that bridge was to be replaced as part of the project to improve the Brightside/Lee/Nicholson intersection in the Green Light Plan.

Let's hope the state does a better job than the city-parish.

LOfrickingL!!

I'd bet my hat, arse, and house cat on the parish doing a better job than the state. DOTD is a bigger stygian pit, shite hole of mismanagement and waste than possibly DHH and Higher Ed. Combined. That's why so many refuse to support new/additional taxes.

Looks like they are already stabbing piles. Didn't get close enough to see their purpose.
