Just think we can take the tops money from the college kids and their parents who failed to plan. We could then put that money toward our roads and bridges.

Maybe they shouldn't worry about fixing that little piece of shite bridge, right?

I think that bridge is supposed to be widened to 4 lanes when they widen Nicholson in a year.

I am sure they will replace it with another 2 lane bridge and then have to rip it out to put the 4 lane bridge in in 2 years.

Wasn't the gas tax to go for all new roads and bridges?

Yes. I understand that people are wary of politicians raiding the tax and diverting money for other purposes. But there had to be a way to write the tax code that makes sure it soley went to roads/bridges.

bullshite. After eight years of Jindal, education and health was severely cut back and transportation dollars were diverted to 'help balance' the budget. So no, DOTD does not have the money, equipment, or manpower it had a decade ago.

This is all correct, plus the amount of federal funds coming in has been cut in the last couple of years.

Sounds like DOTD is playing the system in order to get the LA30 widening done quicker.

I doubt it. Knowing them, they'll waste the money installing a new bridge that makes anything more than 2 lanes prohibitively expensive in the future, making widening impossible, all to save $1 million now, but meaning they would have to spend $50 million to replace the entire bridge in the future.

More like building a brand new 2 lane bridge this month only to destroy it when starting the widening project this October..... Ala the I-10 bridge near Highland that was relatively new and "A" rated but had to be torn down when they expanded I-10

Just put a few extra cops on Bluebonnet with radar guns. New bridge will pay for itself by Friday.

I don't see why they couldn't install a 4 lane bridge and have blockades on the outside lanes until widening is done.

The DOTD schedule was to replace the bridge in 2018

Evidently DOTD and the City-Parish have different strategies.

In the Green Light plan this bridge was to be replaced with a new four lane bridge as part of the improvements to the Nicholson/Brightside/W. Lee intersection.

BTW utility relocation for that job started almost a year ago and its well underway. They even tore that little church down that is adjacent to the creek/bridge.

The schedule for this project had the new construction starting this Summer.
