I don't see why they couldn't install a 4 lane bridge and have blockades on the outside lanes until widening is done.

Because that would require forsight, something DOTD simply doesn't possess. They will avoid spending $500k now to plan for future expansion even if it means it will cost 10 to 20 times more in the future to improve on their short-sighted design.

I saw that it was closed today. How long will that take to get fixed? That's going to be a nightmare for the people who live in the cottages and all those other apartments once school starts

It's undetermined at the moment. My guess is sometime after they finish repairing the bridge on Carlotta Street.

I wonder if they will just go ahead and replace. It looks pretty bad, I'm surprised it hasn't fallen under the weight of cars sitting on it day in and day out.

They'll probably have to. It was scheduled to be replaced next year anyways.

Time frame?

There are standard repairs for bad piles that can take as little as an afternoon to fix.

I saw the article mentioned it already has temp repairs. If those just need to be repositioned it should be done in a day or two.

If water levels are too high to work, or the damage is more severe, it may be a week, two weeks,...

In the Green Light plan this bridge was to be replaced with a new four lane bridge as part of the improvements to the Nicholson/Brightside/W. Lee intersection.

Good thing we rejected that too!

For those that didn't read the article in the Business Report yesterday, this says it all: Quit Complaining About Baton Rouge Traffic

I am about as conservative as it gets, and I hate the vast majority of taxes, but in this case they were set to fix the very problems you complain about.

Choices are to go through a parking lot traffic jam on Burbank, or deal with psychos going 90mph on River Road.

Those of us outside of Baton Rouge find the daily shitshow immensely enjoyable. It livens up a slow workday.

The DOTD schedule was to replace the bridge in 2018

Evidently DOTD and the City-Parish have different strategies.

In the Green Light plan this bridge was to be replaced with a new four lane bridge as part of the improvements to the Nicholson/Brightside/W. Lee intersection.

BTW utility relocation for that job started almost a year ago and its well underway. They even tore that little church down that is adjacent to the creek/bridge.

The schedule for this project had the new construction starting this Summer.

According to the local tv news I watched which reported this bridge story, because Nicholson Dr. is a state highway & not a EBR parish road this bridge repair/replacement on Nicholson is a state project not a parish project.

If that's correct I don't understand what the Greenlight Plan has to do with repairing a state highway bridge.

Are they going to add a turning lane while they are fixing it? Seems like the perfect opportunity.

Sounds like DOTD is playing the system in order to get the LA30 widening done quicker.

I would be okay with this.

ETA: I don't think the UClub crowd will let this bridge stay closed when school starts.

Woah man. That was the best route to school when I was living off bright side. Don't just throw those secrets out there for all the out of state kids to figure out.

We didn't reject that, we voted for it and engineering is fine, ROW acquisition is done and they are close to finishing up the utility reroute.
