It seems like most of the folks from NOLA that go to LSU go back after graduation, outside of that, everybody is in Houston and Dallas/Atlanta to a lesser extent.
Lots of summer internships out of state that turn into full time jobs. That's what got me to Dallas.

Delta was founded in Macon, GA as Huff-Daland Dusters (A subsidiary of Huff-Daland that started in New York) and moved to Louisiana shortly after.

Especially when those states are some of the fastest growing areas in the country. Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Austin are attracting people from all over.
People from Louisiana don’t have to move across the country to California or NY for better opportunities. They simply have to drive a few hours from home. Even NW Arkansas is booming and offers more opportunities than anywhere in Louisiana for a college graduate.

Northwest Arkansas is growing at an insane pace, and its not just because of Walmart anymore.

State didnt pay shite for me. My father did.
State funding to public universities is the reason why tuition was like 1k. Much of the costs were funded by the taxpayers, even in 1995 or whenever you went to college. It's why out of state tuition is much more expensive because they did not pay the taxes that funded the system.

People moved there because of WalMart, but they also created a pleasant environment with more amenities that attracts other businesses and residents.
Louisiana needs something like that. Something other than chemical or oil/gas....not that we should turn our back on that.

Kind of odd; but in my grad school class, almost no one went to NOLA. More actually stayed in Baton Rouge or Lafayette than went to New Orleans. And we are still talking about maybe 10% of the class in total.
Houston, Dallas, Austin, Atlanta, Washington DC, and even Memphis drew more of us away.

A decent chunk of my grad school class went the consulting/audit/accounting route which basically meant they had to leave, or they went to P&N or one of the firms with an office in Nola.
I can't think of anyone that took a job in Nola that wasn't from there or had family there.
EDIT: Sounds like our experiences were similar. We had a ton of folks go to Houston, Dallas, DC, San Fran, Austin, etc.

Yeah, Well my father paid those taxes too and wrote a check to LSU every semester. No one was cutting him any slack.

Walk-On's just opened here about a 20 second walk from my office. Anything there worth the money?

In my time in site selection dealing with head quarters type moves not once has la ever come up as a possible consideration.

Yes, their salads are damn good. Burgers, wraps etc are good. Walkons gets shite on here for their food and I don’t know why. It’s not 4 star dining, but it doesn’t claim to be. It’s a spots bar. It serves food you find in a sports bar. If you want an epicurean experience go somewhere else. If you want a decent lunch or a few beers after work or to watch the game, it’s fine.

You can knock business climate, but I have a hard time understanding why Walk-On's relocating to Atlanta is a bad omen. They're not relocating to Birmingham. Cane's didn't relocate to Corpus Christi.
Theyre moving to much bigger markets.
This right here. The Baton Rouge crime and exodus is not the real issue for this type of movement. It’s all about market size and visibility. Here in Corpus Christi, we had the headquarters for Whataburger and HEB at one time. They’ve both since moved to San Antonio. It makes sense for them.
