If a major company can't send its employee's children to safe, well-rated public schools, then it's not going to consider your location.

There are lots of issues with BR but that will always be the killer that inhibits any growth.

this affect NOLA even more

But what can be done in BR to improve the business and living standards? Atlanta and BR have the similar demographics, so it's not necessarily that.

But Atlanta does have the airport. That's why people and business move there.

He’s made a living off stating the obvious for many, many years. As has the entire Baton Rouge business report.

Didn’t his employer endorse and back Mayor Broome as well? Gee JR, maybe we should quit voting for skin color over substance as you and your employer seem to want us to do.

Heads up...this is an editorial from a guy that's been vocally negative about everything Baton Rouge - even the handful of things they get right.

Walk-On’s food is one small step above an Applebees. It’s gross.

With remote working I don’t get it. Sounds like they just hate it here.

True.

Although south Louisiana seems to do well attracting major industrial service companies. We absolutely suck with almost every other industry.

Atlanta’s public school system is better than BR, but certainly not a giant step forward. Now if you’re talking about living outside the city up north, than yes, it is substantially better.

You can throw in Albemarle and I'm sure others as well. We get big industrial contracts due to geography but for most other industries LA isn't a great place to do business and it's hard to attract out of state candidates to come live here.

Very true, and it will never get fixed. That's not the reason I left BR, I left BR because I could and the fact that BR had become a huge shithole run by corrupt racists.

You mean a state with a majority of poorly educated adults isn’t attractive to the science
And Technology crowd? Shocking.

From the broader Baton Rouge perspective, however, the Walk-On’s announcement is simply the latest example of talented, highly educated people either not moving here or—as has been the case for years—leaving the area for a hotspot destination shortly after earning their TOPS-funded degree from LSU or Southern University.

This outmigration is a problem with far-reaching and long-term impacts on the quality of life and economy of Baton Rouge, Ball writes.

I have been saying for years that students who use TOPS to get a college education and then leave for a job outside within 5-10 years of graduating should be forced to pay back their tuition.

I'm very thankful they funded my engineering degree as a stepping stone to my life in Tennessee.

I graduated in 2010 though and had some difficulty finding employment in Louisiana.

I can't figure out why a potential CEO wouldn't want to move to Baton Rouge with the current state of crime, education, and traffic.

Makes no sense
