WTF did they think those curved joists supporting the netting would do to someone thrown into them at 70 mph? Heck, the net alone could tear you to pieces.
Was just about to post this.

This is an awfully sad story.
Amusement park disasters are quite fascinating and chilling to me for some reason, maybe because we went so often as a child?

Yeah appears to me the "netting" or at least the framework for the netting might have been what killed him

Why the frick do they have an open gap in the netting? Especially right after that last hump. I'm guessing he got too much air where that opening is and hit his head where the netting resumed. Jesus Christ what piss poor management.

So the kid was killed by a safety feature?

The whole chain of parks will be done for after they're done paying lawsuits and fines, not to mention how much business they'll lose because people will be scared to go to their parks.
God rest this poor boys soul.
And his poor family, I can't imagine even being able to function after losing a child or sibling that way. This is one of those stories that shakes you to the core just reading about it.

It was just a matter of time until this happened. The right height of the kid, the wrong distribution of weight in the raft multiplied by speed and of course the metal frame for the net.

Wait where did you see this I thought it went the entire ride?

I think they are so chilling because the whole point of visiting an amusement park is to have a great time and usually enjoy some fun with your children. It's something we all can relate to and when these accidents occur they are usually gruesome and (for the families at least) unpredictable.
I haven't been to a water park in years, but as a kid I just naively believed that it had to be completely safe or they wouldn't allow anyone on.

Holy frick that is an insane amount of blood if that's really all blood.
They say the floor is black in that section, it's a friction pad to slow the raft down.

Lol no. Schlitterbahn is awesome. This is truly sad what happened but the entire chain will not be done. They will probably close the slide and move on. Should have never opened to begin with

Whole chain?
Nah.
This park?
Maybe. Like I said, it's not their best park.

Yeah I was watching a video on YT about a girl that died in the UK falling 100 feet off a roller coaster because they failed to check her harness and turns out it wasn't fastened properly...they got fined 250K euros.

A girl died at Dixie Landin in 2010. If that crappy park didn't get closed, none will
Posted on 8/7/16 at 10:33 pm to UltimateHog
Wow, that seems an awfully low amount.

I watched a testing film before it was open to the public and it was very erratic, throwing weighted dummies off the raft. If you hit a safety cage at 50mph it could kill you, especially if you're a small child.

As unfortunate as it is, I'd imagine every amusement park has had at least one fatality in its history.

A kid was decapitated on a rollercoaster at six flags over Georgia, the park never closed. Tragic accidents like this are rare, but people have died from ride accidents at many of the major theme parks.

That boy hopped 2 seperate fences, walked past multiple warning signs to get into a restricted area to retrieve his hat. He was decapitated when a riders leg smashed into his head as the roller coaster passed over him. That boy wasn't on the ride. His death was 100% on himself, and Six Flags should've been more liable for the passengers leg that was shattered on the Darwin candidate's head than for the boy himself.
This situation today is 100% the fault of the park and their neglect of safety. There will be fines out the arse and a multi-million dollar settlement.
I'll admit I know nothing of this chain of parks and never heard of them before this thread so maybe they're bigger and more stable than I thought. But I imagine this will still put a serious financial strain on them for quite a while, and at the very least this particular location is in for a world of hurt.
Both tragic, but from a liability standpoint that case is the polar opposite.
