Safety cages won't do a ton if you fall forward and start rolling. I guess it'll keep your dead hunk of human meat from smacking the pavement.

That is horrendous if the kid lost his head. Kiss that ride goodbye

I would imagine the cage/net came into play if he was decapitated
Posted on 8/7/16 at 8:35 pm to Jcorye1
Maybe the whole raft came out of the cage.

I went down one at Hawaiian Falls and my nuts were in my stomach for three weeks.

Riders on the Verrückt are supposed to be at least 54 inches tall. Riders sit in a three-person raft and are secured with straps across the waist and shoulders, like a seat belt. The combined weight of riders per raft must be between 400 and 550 pounds. Riders are weighed at the bottom of the tower and again at the top.
It seems like they have some fairly strict safety procedures in place. Wonder if the employees actually followed them though the age of a rider isn't something an employee can easily check.

I would bet that if the decapitation tweet is true, when you hit the top of the hill, there probably wasn't enough weight in the raft to hold it down and he went up into the cage
ETA: just watched video of people going down. Not sure how else it could have happened

I saw a picture on twitter of them removing the safety nets, I think after the apex of the second hump.
Supposedly they weigh the passengers twice but it might have been heavy in front or back and caused it to lift.

Horrible. A poster on Reddit said they were there not long after, couldn't get close, but heard the mother saying "He's not moving"? Not sure about the source, but if it's legit, not moving and he doesn't have all or most of his head?
Internal decapitation?
Internal decapitation?

And yeah KC Star sucks major arse, KC Fox, ABC, and NBC reporting he was 12.

Yep. My son is almost 12 and about average height but rather thin (57" but only 70 lbs). If this kid was similar in stature, he would've passed on the height, but the other two people would have to weigh 330 lbs to get it to the minimum 400. If it was unbalanced, it seems like that could make part of the raft lift too.

Not for long after this.

Those nets should be going down wayyyy farther than that.

They built in KS because they have no mandated slide height restrictions.
Poster on Reddit said blood was pouring down the slide
